A thought on mental health awareness month... As leaders and managers, we have a lofty responsibility: to lead our teams to success. And a large part of that success hinges on our employees’ mental health. Studies show that for 70% (!) of people, their manager is as important as their partner when it comes to their mental health. So, what can we, as leaders and managers, do to ensure that we’re positively affecting our employees? First, we can keep check of our own mental health. Make sure that we’re not burning the candle at both ends, putting in excessive hours, and creating undue stress on ourselves – and, in turn, our teams. It’s about walking the talk. We also need to take stock of our leadership style. Are we demonstrating proximity, and responding to employees’ needs – with empathy and compassion? Are our employees feeling challenged and given autonomy, while having the work-life balance they need? It’s about listening – truly listening – and creating regular opportunities for open and productive dialogue. Our employees are a company’s most precious asset. And our job, as leaders and managers, is take care of that resource – by taking care of ourselves and them. Ultimately, everyone benefits – including the company’s bottom line. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #mentalhealth
Not surprised by the figure! And, if you ask my husband, I probably talk about my boss(es) at least 70% of the time - slight exaggeration, but you get the point 😆
Thanks for sharing Roberto. 🙏 This reminds me key notions of The Human Element, from Dr. Will Schutz, and especially the notion of « awareness » (self-awareness and awareness of people around us) as a deep foundation (and work on oneself) for relationships within our organizations. Have a good week-end.
Roberto Di Bernardini Thanks for sharing 🙏 What I am taking from this is that to be a leader it is not selfish but our duty to look after ourselves to effectively lead others 👍🏻
Leading with empathy and self-awareness is key. By prioritizing our own mental health and fostering open, compassionate communication, we set a positive example.
Lived experience only confirms what you are sharing, Roberto. And it is the exact sequence for appropriate implementation. Hope all is well
Sent you a DM, Roberto! 😊

1moI echo your insights Roberto and often witness on the market, the need: - for Teams to be further equipped though in their mental health self pulse/regulation - for Leaders to be supported in gaining a greater degree of servant leadership, coaching spirit and emotional intelligence - for business culture to place wellbeing intentionally at the heart of their DNA « Daily Natural Acts » that people feel on Sunday night before coming back to work Glad we can all collectively contribute to shifting the paradigm!
