After 7 months of applying for entry-level roles that require 3+ years or 5 years of experience, I've noticed that many current employees at these companies are getting promoted to these higher-experience roles. Surprisingly, these employees have only been with the company for 1 year. So, how does 1 year of internal experience compare to 3+ years of experience for an external hire?

Saving MD's money by recruiting successful teams within Clean Energy, Automotive, IT, Data & Digital, and most recently Quantity Surveying and Project Management within Construction (professional services)
❌ You have zero excuses for having your job open past 6 months. If I told you that you could spend less time hiring, offering someone within 6 hours (in total) of your time spent in the hiring process - what would you say? No? Why? - Because you don't have time? OK - spend another hour interviewing 3 to 5 people, and no offers going out, that's 5 hours right there. - Too busy? - Ok, what are you going to do when someone quits because they are being overworked? Now you've got to backfill them AND hire the head you've been trying to recruit? - Not a priority? tell your family that when you're not home for dinners or spending quality time with the kiddos (without picking up your phone or emails). You can either continue making excuses or move the needle on a few things, to give you space to breathe. I've learnt how to prioritise my business, working IN it and ON it. With the help of Ben Hepworth and it made me better at my job of being a manager, leader and business owner. Also means I'm spending more time with the family. So again, what's your excuse? #cleanenergyhiring #electrificationhiring #emobility #recruitmentprocess #worklifebalance

There's no good reason that companies can't train recruiters to be moved around in tough times. We should build this. #HR / #People folks: what would be the first program you design to help this essential role transition into other HR functions? My view is thinking of recruiting as within HR, but could easily see them move into marketing or community management functions as well + a mountain of others! #humanresources #recruiting #layoffs
Gotta be honest, it's always so baffling to see recruiters laid off in huge batches. Why? Because recruiters do a lot more than get people jobs. Yes, that is definitely part of the role. For sure. And I love that. But it’s also client management, reporting, creating equitable hiring processes, program management, brand ambassadors, candidate experience, building interview prcoesses and that’s just off the top of my head. Plus they are suuuuper adaptable so chances are they would thrive in multiple roles at the company. Recruiters are vital. Thankful for those peeps today!

Being Laid Off Had an insightful discussion with one of my hiring managers yesterday. He mentioned a preference for hiring individuals who have been laid off. His reasoning? Firstly, they're often eager to return to work swiftly. Secondly, given fair treatment in terms of pay and title, they tend to exhibit loyalty. Lastly, they're usually available to start sooner. I wholeheartedly concur with these points. Just a note: You don't necessarily need to highlight being laid off on your profile or resume, but it's beneficial to recognize that it can be viewed as a positive attribute in the hiring process.

Career Story Coach & Resume Writer 🔥 Embrace Your Misfit Identity & Land your Dream Job with an Exceptional Personal Brand 🎙️ Host of Destination: Dream Job Podcast
I found this at the bottom of a job posting 👇 "We encourage you to apply if you don’t feel your experience and background sound like a perfect fit. Many of our team members have taken an unusual path to get to where they are today, and our unique and diverse perspectives make us more effective." 🎉 I found this to be a refreshing take in a competitive job market. Companies like this are going to draw in the best talent and keep their employees longer term. It's not always about who has the best education or experience, for some companies it's truly about who you are. Take some time to identify and recognize your superpowers, they might just be what gets you hired. What's your opinion on what this company shared? Comment below ⬇

I hear a lot of complaints about applicants not even reading job descriptions. It's a common gripe (and a fair one!) but most hiring teams aren't helping themselves either. 📝 Wordy, generic, and jargon-filled job descriptions can be a real turn-off. They essentially invite candidates to lose focus on what truly matters: the fit of skills and personal requirements. 💡 Tip #1 here: Keep the intro short and sweet. While recent press or industry awards may matter at some point, candidates aren't making that initial "yay" or "nay" decision based on whether you're backed by First Round or a16z. (And honestly, would you want them to?) One exception? When you actually make the intro unique, digestible and, above all, human. Our friends at Knoetic | CPOHQ do a great job with this. You can check out their approach here: https://lnkd.in/eF4-KDY7 Remember, the initial job description is the gateway. Let's make it more about the role and less about company PR. #hiring #jobs
