My favorite insight about agency vs in-house creative department (and the one I've reused many times to sound insightful) came from Naz A.. Agency creatives are the product. The work you do is what the entire agency is built around, so you're the most important department. The creative department in-house is just one of many not-the-most-important departments.

This week on #DefiningDollhaus, we’re talking about short term vs long term goals as well as brand messaging. One thing we have always kept intact at Dollhaus is our short term and long term goals. One must have both in order to run a successful business. However, in our industry it can be a bit tricky. The film and content world is forever changing, now more than ever. One must set realistic goals that can also maneuver and weave within the obstacles that are laid before us every day. Our short term goals are focused on our clients and the processes that we need to keep in order to make their experience as pleasurable as possible. Other short term goals include trying new things, diversifying our portfolio, having zero fear of what’s familiar, and building upon what we have. While short term goals are important, long term goals are always a companies main trajectory. Without long term goals what is the point of the companies existence. There is a reason that people start companies and it is to achieve their long term goals as people with dreams. Dollhaus has always had our eyes set for feature film and seasonal television. Our roots come from narrative story telling. We grew into the people we are based on the stories we loved the most growing up. We are very lucky at Dollhaus to always have a project on the table that is in line with these long term goals. Furthermore, we hope to continue to dominate the areas we thrive in - feature film, narative work, cinema, high art, and the merging of art and commercialism. We hope to soon truly focus on our films and press onwards into the community where we truly love to be a part of. When it comes to our brand message, it is always changing similar to people as we grow, improve and adapt. We are currently very involved in the commercial world. Most filmmakers and content creators will tell you the clients they have can be tricky as they usually don't have a full understanding of what goes into the creation of videos for their marketing needs. We are always making sure that they are up to date and have all the information before making any big decision. The other big short term goal we have is keeping the company ethos in check. That all dialogue between colleagues is productive and respectful. It can get very stressful on projects during the day to day in filmmaking. The Dollhaus family makes sure that our employees feel heard and respected in all aspects of their duties.
