Last week, we welcomed staff from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to our Lancaster office for a staff retreat. While they were here, RLPS employees who are Thaddeus Stevens' alumni shared fond memories of their time at Thaddeus and how it helped shape them and their career pathway at RLPS. We were able to snap a picture before the group left and even included one of interns who is a freshman at Thaddeus Stevens! Can you spot the intern? #architecture #careerpath

Introducing my internship portfolio, which is an extensive compilation of my professional and academic experiences from Semester 1 to Semester 6. This portfolio, which is the result of my diligence, commitment, and passion for my chosen subject, is a tribute to my path of learning, growth, and development. This internship portfolio shows how I've changed as a learner and a potential professional. In addition to reflecting my educational background and real-world experiences, it acts as a guide for my future aspirations.

The Better Futures Institute, in collaboration with the City of San Antonio, will host a series of conversations about the future of cities during the Civic Tech Scholars internship program. These conversations will focus on understanding the roles of public city officials, urban resilience, civic engagement, and the impact of civic technology and innovation in shaping the future of cities. We think of the future as something we all create together, not something that's already decided and waiting for us: The future is a group project. By creating spaces for dialogue and understanding the diverse needs of our communities, we're turning aspirations into actionable plans—come and help us build a future that benefits everyone. #BetterFuturesConversations Session 1: Urban Planning & Public Infrastructure This session will provide insights into the role of urban planning and public infrastructure in shaping a sustainable and resilient San Antonio, and explore innovative solutions and community place-making strategies that can enhance the quality of life for our city’s population. https://lnkd.in/gu72S6BR #betterfutures #betterfuturesinstitute #civictech #steameducation #stem

My recent visit to Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, was eye-opening. We met with the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions who told us that their peer institutions are WPI and RPI. The biggest difference is Stevens' location, a stone's throw from Manhattan internships and coops. Amen! And who wouldn't want to be in Hoboken, a really hip and vibrant city just outside NYC? I was impressed with so much that I heard here. There are just over 4000 undergraduates, which I think is a sweet spot. Lest you think these are all techy nerds, there are 23 D3 sports teams and 20 performing arts groups. There's a new core curriculum which is very hands-on and tech-centric, and a coop program is available for engineering and computer science majors. Students can live on campus while working full-time in those coops or summer internships; NYC is so close that students have opportunities on their doorstep. The most popular major among applicants is mechanical and undecided engineering, but the most popular single program is computer science. And there are 12 different majors within the Engineering department, including Naval, Optical, Software, and Industrial and Systems Engineering. A new major here is Quantitative Social Science, a combination of sociology, technology, and data analytics. How cool is that? For admission, calculus and physics are crucial. Students without calculus can be admitted conditionally, but students without calculus or physics must take one or both the summer before matriculating. At $84K, the price tag is high, but merit scholarships start at $10K and go up to full tuition. The president's strategic plan includes doubling the number of applications in 10 years, effectively reducing their acceptance rate in half (currently 41-44%), while increasing full-time, high-quality faculty. I see no reason why that shouldn't happen. This school is a gem and should be on the rise. #Stevens #collegeplanning #collegecounseling

When I was a junior/senior in Paul Robeson H.S for Business & Technology. In 97-98 I studied stenography. Back then I didn’t take the profession seriously because my long nails 💅🏾 were my priority. Thinking back, I wonder how different my life would be if I valued my career over vanity. This is the reason I now work with the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development Dycd Dycd Youth Employment Program Thomas (DYCD) Summer Youth Employment Program. It gives me the opportunity to provide a employment opportunities to young people while also providing mentorship & career coaching to the next generation of leaders. Question: What are you or your company/organization doing to support employment for youth? Also comment below, if you have changed your career since H.S. and if so, what are you doing now? Most importantly, are you satisfied? #youthemployment #nyc #youthempowerment #hiretalent #highschoolstudents #collegestudents #internshipexperience #internship2023 #intern #summerinternship #eleaseawigginsistheone

Hopping on my soapbox of the importance of science communication. The Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin has announced their High School Freshwater Summer Scholars Internship Program. This unique program provides 120 hours of paid research or teaching experience for high school students. The opportunities are listed below and teaching at Atlas Science Center (formerly the Paper Discovery Center) this summer is one of them! As an intern at Atlas, students are mentored by an education team with 16 peer-reviewed published papers, 2 patents, a published book chapter, years of grant writing experience and countless hours of presenting science - both our own and others. Why in the world does this matter so much? Because our data and our results are only as powerful as our communication of them. Teaching science is as much about weaving a narrative as it is teaching the facts, whether you are presenting your own research or teaching thermodynamics for the umpteenth time. Without context, without connection, we lose people. But we don't have to. We are at a tipping point in scientific literacy in general which has become even more evident in the last 5 years. There is a disconnect between the experts and the public. The thing is, it's NOT that difficult to inform anyone with any background the science behind the decisions they want to make for themselves and their family. That's what we do here at Atlas, it's what we do as informal science educators and it's what our team does as mentors to the next generation of scientific communicators. We need them now more than ever. Hopping off my soapbox - please share these intern opportunities with your networks who might have high school students interested anywhere in the Fox Cities or Green Bay! https://lnkd.in/giR-_mwe
