“The Power of Mentorship for Women in Business” As a Country Manager, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment has always been one of my priorities. One area I'm particularly passionate about is mentorship, especially for women in business. Having a mentor can be the key that unlocks our full potential. Great mentors offer guidance and support. Yesterday, Mylanna and I had the privilege of attending the Indy Chamber Women in Business Breakfast at Franklin College, where we had the honor of supporting and learning from my mentor, Deana R. Haworth, APR, CEO of Hirons. Deana shared her journey of establishing a thought leadership niche by harnessing her personal story. I’ve been fortunate to have known and been mentored by Deana for the past five years. We first met when I was navigating the early stages of my leadership journey while managing my first company. Like many first-time founders, I was unsure if I could weather the storms of building my first company so that it could grow. Deana not only listened to my concerns but also poured her wisdom and encouragement into me, reassuring me that my potential extended far beyond what I could imagine at that time. She then outlined the potential career path that awaited me, provided I trusted myself and believed in the potential she saw in me. Five years have passed since our mentorship journey began, yet Deana continues to go above and beyond to support me whenever we cross paths. She did so once again yesterday during her presentation when she surprised me by featuring me as a local thought leader for other women to learn from. Mentorship is often emphasized as a crucial element for women seeking to advance in their careers. And while I wholeheartedly agree, I believe that much of the advice given to women seeking a mentor overlooks whether the results of the mentorship will benefit the mentee. As someone who has had the privilege of learning from remarkable mentors, including the exceptional Deana Haworth, I’d like to share what has made these mentorship experiences truly valuable for me: Seek a mentor who... 1. Recognizes your potential even when you may not see it in yourself. 2. Leads through example and actions, not just words. 3. Provides you the space and time to grow. 4. Leaves room for you to make mistakes without giving up on you. And most importantly... 5. Uses their influence and platform to amplify your shine. Our private lives matter too; balancing responsibilities and nurturing relationships show them what holistic success looks like. This past year I've had the pleasure of working with One Step Closer (OSC) and JEDI Collaborative in a peer mentoring circle led by the inspirational Angela Rassi. Now entering it's 4th year, I'm delighted and honored to be asked to co-lead one of the circles with Angi. Lifting women up in the industry has been a passion of mine and I couldn't be more thrilled to co-lead this next cohort of leaders.
