I think this is shared sentiment but very few people I've met in the industry actually chose to be here (Transportation and Logistics). When I grow up, I want to work in Trucking, Dad! (Not really) There are two kinds of people: Type A) An opportunity presented itself. Took a risk, realized logistics is a different animal and quickly make a career change out of the industry. This is not for me type (tenure 1-3 years) Type B) Either totally unrelated and fell in by chance or had some affiliation to the industry, maybe worked for a manufacturer/distributor... a tangent that ran parallel to the industry. Fell in love with the fact that it's its own reality within the rest of the world that never sleeps, with its own language/terminology, new challenges, always something to learn. The lifer. (tenure 5 years to life) I'll share mine: - I'm Type B, and I couldn't picture myself in a General Ledger counting beans for the next 30 years. I had warehouse/inventory experience working summer jobs for Mercury Marine and Budweiser, swapped to Supply Chain, fell into Transportation and the rest is history. Which are you, and how did you get here?

Hi All, This is really hard to say. But after 11 years of working at Virgin Galactic, I have to say goodbye. In 2012, my husband got a job at Edwards AFB. Needless to say I was hesitant because I did not want to leave the Ventura area for the high desert. But as we drove through Mojave to our new home, I saw a sign that was slightly faded from the Mojave sun. The sign said “Welcome to Mojave, Home of SpaceShipOne”. I thought SpaceShipOne? Oh that's Richard Branson’s project. I heard about that a long time ago. I was so excited and after we got settled in, I wanted to get a job, any job, working for his company. After applying and getting a call back, I ended up with a better job than I applied for. Here I am, 11 years later, several positions and promotions under my belt, I will be saying my goodbyes on April 1st (no joke). My position has gone from working remote after 4 years, to hybrid going in to work 3 days a week, which will not work for me since I am in Ohio and my work location is in California. I understand it was a business decision, but I must say it is pretty hard for me. VG has been 11 years of excitement and keeping me on my toes. I've had some bumps and bruises along the way but the fun times outweighed the bad. I mean, I got to witness Richard fulfill his dream of going to space and we made history! This was why I wanted to work for the company, the mission of making space accessible to all, but the people and the job opportunities made me stay. Getting a space program up and running was/is not for the faint of heart. I have experience in Procurement as a Senior Procurement Specialist, Commodity Manager for Facilities, capital equipment, testing, and everything else not bolted to the aircraft/spacecraft. I also have experience and currently am a Sr. Contracts Administrator in the Legal Department working various contract administration and contract manager duties including reviewing and redlining supplier terms and conditions, statements of work, process improvement, contract review, template creation, etc. As I pursue my next opportunity, I will be looking to continue my career in Contracts, as a Senior Contracts Administrator but I am also open to opportunities as a Contracts Manager and/or a Commodity/Category Manager. I am highly motivated and excited about my new adventure and am hoping that my next place of business will also "keep me on my toes"...but in a good way. If anyone in my network knows of opportunities that I would a great fit for, please let me know and if you would like to write a recommendation for me, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated! It has been a while since I have seen published supply chain job data so it would seem appropriate to share some findings as you: 📌 Prepare your job search. 📌 Ask for a raise in your current role. 📌 Do any kind of career planning. Some key takeaways from the article: - Purchasing managers have the highest median salary of supply chain jobs reported: $131,350. - The average median salary for supply chain jobs (regardless of level in the U.S.) is $90,812. - Logisticians have the highest 10-year projected growth rate (18%). - The supply chain jobs with the most openings are general and operations managers (35,000 job postings). - New Jersey, New York, and Washington offer the highest average salaries for supply chain jobs. - Vermont, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Minnesota ranked amongst the top for number of job openings by state per capita. There are interesting takeaways to get from this data based on where you live, future growth based on job title and the number of job openings by role.
