“Design is a tool for highlighting and amplifying a message. Strategy figures out what that message should be.” I came across this quote while watching a recent D&AD New Blood Festival 2023 panel discussion — where designers from Design Bridge and Partners discussed the dynamic relationship between strategy and design. I find this to be true in that; strategy not only identifies the core message, but also outlines and establishes the boundaries within which decisions are made and creativity thrives. Strategy really is about making choices — determining both what to pursue and what to forgo — from the business side all the way to to design and execution.
