One of the most impactful books I share from my collection is "Steal Like an Artist" by Austin Kleon. Rather than being a fixed part of my library, this book often finds its way into the hands of colleagues and peers. I advocate for the idea that innovation doesn't necessitate starting from zero. Instead, it's about refining and reimagining what already exists to create something new and personalized. I just finished The Creative Act: A Way of Being, a profound exploration of creativity and artistic identity, where Rubin presents a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with me. Rubin's book provides a valuable perspective on embracing creativity as a fundamental aspect of human existence. Here are three key takeaways that particularly stood out to me: Embrace Your Inner World: Rubin draws an analogy between the richness of nature and our inner world, emphasizing that our inner landscape is just as diverse and beautiful. This idea resonates with me, as it suggests that creativity springs from within and is as boundless as nature itself. How to create better decisions? Roger Martin and Jennifer Riel explore integrative thinking to create better solutions to problems in their book "Creating Great Choices." They challenge the traditional approach to decision-making, which often leads to sub-optimal recommendations. Instead, they propose to create better answers by leveraging Design Thinking to generate and explore new possibilities that will be prototyped and tested. It is an excellent book, concrete and, above all, practical. It will help you: 1 - Articulate opposing models. 2 - Explore the key elements of each model and reframe the problem. 3 - Generate possibilities. 4 - Prototype and test each possibility. I highly recommend it to anyone developing their strategic thinking capabilities.
