Today the RISE family is grieving the loss of one of our strongest, most passionate leaders. Patricia Richards will be sorely missed. As our Executive Director Brian Rudiger commemorated to our team today, "Patsy moved from Alabama to Portland in February 2020 to begin RISE’s Long-Term CareWorks program. Most people would shy away from the challenge of moving cross-country to start a brand-new program in a start-up organization during a global pandemic. But Patsy was not 'most people.' She leaned in and tirelessly, passionately worked to better the lives of Oregonians wanting a fresh start and career path in long-term care. "To those of us who knew her well, the loss of Patsy’s wisdom, humor, and friendship leaves a hole that cannot be filled. Yet we know her legacy lives on in the people she touched. Last week, I was honored to meet with several CNA apprentices whose work was made possible due to Patsy’s work. In story after story, it was clear that Patsy’s legacy will carry on in those workers: one of whom shared that caregiving was a calling to her, and that the CNA apprenticeship made it possible for her to 'change the trajectory of [her] life.' "The world is a better place because of Patsy’s work, and a lesser one because of her absence. We will miss her terribly."

Patsy was a phenomenal woman. A champion for Healthcare workforce rights, justice and beacon of hope in the fight for workforce equity. Rest In Power Thank you for ALL you did. Your legacy will be remembered and continue driving equity forward for generations. I’m honored to have gotten the opportunity to work alongside you for a short period trying to build healthcare apprenticeships and equitable pathways in one of the least equitable fields.

We will all miss our dear friend Patsy tremendously! She will continue to be an inspiration and will live on in our hearts. She was a kind, compassionate, and loving person who respected and valued every person and applied these values in her work. She was a champion for equity and improving healthcare for all vulnerable populations. May her legacy live on. My condolences to her loved ones.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Sending love to her famiky and work colleagues. What a beautiful friend she was to so many.

Patsy exuded so much light and inspired me to do more and better every time I had the privilege to spend time with her. My heart aches to hear of her passing.

Patsy was an incredible, passionate voice for the power and possibility of the RISE Partnership. What will honor her memory most is to have the RISE succeed even beyond Patsy’s aspirations—which were great.
