We're back at the event again today, so come say hello. Laura Hyland and Jane Bennett will be in the Best Practice Nursing Theatre at 2.30pm, talking about how to prepare for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship, including: 1. Understanding how the registered nursing associate role looks in general practice. 2. Identifying and supporting the prospective trainee nursing associate 3. Ensuring the wider practice team understands the importance of this role. Hope to see you there!

The power of apprenticeships
'I desperately wanted to become a nurse but, having two very young children, I thought I’d have to wait until they were older to pursue my dream career. The apprenticeships were the perfect opportunity to make my dream come true.' Grace started her journey with the NHS in an administrative role, working closely with district nurses. However, her heart was always set on becoming a mental health nurse. Through the support of NHS apprenticeship programmes, Grace was able to achieve her dream career. She successfully completed both the Trainee Nurse Associate and Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships. The flexibility of apprenticeships, coupled with working and earning a wage while studying, made this journey feasible for Grace. 'Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust have gone above and beyond to make it possible for me to complete the apprenticeship. My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is, take the opportunity while it’s available. You never know where you might end up until you try.' The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan is significantly increasing education and training, as well as increasing apprenticeships and alternative routes into nursing careers. In 2023, 123,335 students applied to study a medicine or healthcare-related course, with almost 1/3 of them expressing interest in apprenticeships. At UCAS, we are dedicated to raising awareness about apprenticeship pathways into medical professions. Here’s Jane Hadfield, NHS England’s National Apprenticeship Lead talking about their partnership with UCAS, and how together we can provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who seek alternatives to traditional university routes. #EarlyCareers #Employers #NHSCareers

Providing cost-free access to career training and teacher credentialing could be the solution many districts and schools need to alleviate teacher shortages! However, we will also have to watch very closely how this progresses. Teacher burnout is already so high, and now it’s up to teachers to also train new teachers. It could be a moment where this good idea finally adds the burden that makes experienced educators, who are capable of being these mentor-teacher, burnout and leave, exacerbating the problem this is supposed to fix. For me, I feel very nervous as I celebrate this program’s foundation. As a departmental leader at a DCPS school, I have not heard a single bit of news about the program prior to this post. It also seems OSSE is still hiring Program Specialists for this. That combination of no internal news and the program is still filling roles tasked with rolling out and managing the program does not inspire confidence that this currently being done with fidelity. To ensure this program provides the opportunities to those it aims to benefit, as well as not cause more strain on our teachers, OSSE would do well to build this program gradually while being proactive about every single step it takes along the way. I want so much for this to succeed! It could go a long way to turning around the crisis our education system has faced for so long now!
Today, we are proud to launch a brand-new, cost-free opportunity for DC paraprofessionals and DC high school graduates to become an Elementary, Early Childhood, or Special Education teachers in DC. Our new Apprenticeship in Teaching program will remove financial barriers to entering the teaching profession by providing prospective DC educators with a tuition-free bachelor’s degree, flexible coursework offerings and paid on-the-job learning. Apprentices who successfully complete the program will also be eligible for an OSSE standard teaching credential. Find out more and sign up for an info session here: https://lnkd.in/eUyw7qTA

Registered Apprenticeship national Expert, Retired US Naval Officer, Retired Federal and State Government official.
Although apprenticeships are common in many countries, they are relatively uncommon in the US. This is despite hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds being spent over the past few decades to support their development. Why aren’t apprenticeships more common? In many states, workers in specific industries must hold an occupational license before they are allowed to work, making it impossible for apprentices to learn on the job. Some states have recognised this barrier. In Utah and Minnesota, lawmakers have recently allowed for nursing apprenticeships in combination with a traditional nursing programme. These changes are crucial to encourage more workers to move into in-demand fields like health care.
