Campbell's acquires Sovos Brands 👏 The American soup brand has announced the acquisition of the convenience food group for $2.7bn. The Sovos portfolio consists of various brands including the fast-growing Rao's, whose product listings include sauces, pasta, soups and frozen meals. It also includes the popular noosa yoghurt brand. The deal marks the largest for Campbell's in over half a decade, and the company expects a 'fast and effective' integration due to its familiarity with the categories and its scaling capabilities. Mick Beekhuizen, President of Meals & Beverages at Campbell's, commented: "This is a historic day for us as a meals and beverages division but also Campbell’s as an organization. We have these iconic brands in our portfolio, but adding these premium brands to that portfolio ... now you’re starting to create a very compelling story. I want to make sure that we maintain the growth trajectory that Sovos has. Smucker bets on Twinkies in the snack race #JMSmucker announced yesterday that it is buying the purveyor of plastic-wrapped cakes, #HostessBrands, for $5.6 billion. Set to close by the end of January, the deal is worth roughly $2 billion more than Hostess’s market value. The #snack business is booming—up 11% last year, according to #CircanaGroup—and #Smucker is looking to get in on the nosh gains. Between 2019 and 2022, Hostess’s revenues skyrocketed 50%. Meanwhile, #Hershey and #Mondelez International grew their overall sales by 30% and 22%, respectively. For Smucker, sugary treats like Twinkies, Ho Hos, and Ding Dongs may be especially lucrative— #indulgent snacks have grown 20% faster than healthy ones in the last three years, CEO Mark Smucker said. The snacks sector is consolidating; #Mars and #Unilever both recently acquired companies specializing in snacks. And in another sign that quick bites are all the rage, #Kellogg’s board of directors decided yesterday to segment its chips and treats into a new company, #Kellanova.

McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme expand partnership McDonald's’s and Krispy Kreme have plans to expand their partnership to offer the popular doughnut treat in McDonald’s restaurants across the U.S. by the end of 2026. The news follows a successful test run that the brands launched in October 2022 at 160 locations in Kentucky and Indiana. Thanks to this exclusive partnership, consumers will be able to find Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, and Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled treats at more than double the current locations, a rollout that will begin in the second half of 2024 and will expand outward across the restaurant chain’s 13,500 locations in the U.S. Doughnuts will be available all day in single units or a box of six. According to reports, Krispy Kreme’s chief executive has commented to investors that it could support 6,000 McDonald’s restaurants with its existing supply infrastructure, a supply chain it will continue to invest in. Its existing stores currently have capacity that can be ramped up to satisfy growing demand, but more facilities will be added by the doughnut maker in the future. The brand relies on a hub and spoke model that allows it to distribute treats from production hubs (stores and factories) that can feed supply to the 6,800 third-party retailers including grocery stores, gas stations, and now, McDonald’s, which plans to add an additional 900 stores to its roster by 2027. At present, Krispy Kreme doughnuts can be found in 14,100 stores in 39 countries and expects that it can achieve more than 100,000 points of access globally long-term. My biggest hope is that young entrepreneurs will read this and use my story to fuel their fire With this concept that I created in my own kitchen, investors laughed at me. I was rejected over 100 times trying to get this off the ground in early 2020 I got every excuse in the book - people don't make enough cocktails at home, people won't enjoy drinking powders, there's no way to make these taste good enough, you'll never work your way into people's purchasing routine, the list goes on.. Here we are just 3 years since launch, the #1 cocktail on Amazon, #1 mocktail on Amazon, working with partners like JetBlue, Walmart, QVC, Paris Hilton, Ellen etc. etc. etc., and now winner of the biggest grocery distributor's best trending beverage award For anyone following my journey, I hope it’s clear this isn't just wishful thinking anymore What’s been most important to me is gaining the reputation of someone that exceeds goals and overdelivers. With 3 years worth of doing just that, I'm hoping I've started to earn that title That trend isn't stopping anytime soon.
