8 Bleeding Heart Yard has been nominated for the 2023 BETTER FUTURE Awards London Design Awards in the Architecture - Commercial - Constructed category. This prestigious award recognises the creation of functional, technically advanced, socially responsible, and aesthetically pleasing spaces through careful planning, design, and construction - all of which were meticulously considered by Amin Taha and GROUPWORK. The refurbishment, undertaken by RED Construction Group, spanned the building’s 35,566 square feet of floor space. Its basement, ground, and first-floor levels were renovated and adapted for retail and restaurant use (albeit much of the ground and first floors were taken by the office tenant as part of their HQ) and a new two-storey public colonnade was added. In the redevelopment of 20-23 Greville Street, sustainability was a central tenet of Groupwork’s approach. Two new cross-laminated timber floors were added to the top of the building, and an existing light well was repurposed to provide cycle facilities for occupants. The structure is an example of architectural design that integrates net zero principles: the use of cross-laminated timber and insulation of existing brick walls, for example, act to greatly reduce carbon emissions. In 8 Bleeding Heart Yard, Groupwork has realised a modern and dynamic workplace, one that is an aesthetically rich and contemporary telling of a storied past. This concept presents an innovative and eco-centric design for a high-rise structure. The spiraling greenery imbues life into the architecture, creating a vertical forest that could contribute positively to the city's air quality and biodiversity. These terraced gardens introduce an element of nature into the urban landscape, offering a refreshing contrast to the surrounding cityscape. The flowing, organic forms of the towers with their open-air platforms suggest a blend of functionality and leisure, potentially housing a mix of residential, commercial, and public green spaces. This design could serve as a multifunctional hub, encouraging community interaction and engagement. Positioned alongside the iconic CN Tower, this design respects the established symbol while suggesting a future where architecture and nature coexist seamlessly. It makes a powerful statement about the potential direction of urban development, prioritizing sustainable living and architectural beauty. This could be a landmark project, contributing to Toronto’s reputation as a city that values innovation, sustainability, and quality of life.

Blending a sustainable contemporary home into its surroundings From the riverside scenery to the views over Lymington Old Town, this new build contemporary home in Hampshire connects to the idyllic setting and realises the owners dream to create their own highly sustainable and sensitively modern home. Located in the New Forest National Park, there were a number of planning constraints which required careful consideration. With the house’s elevated position, it was important to create a low-lying form and a palette of natural materials that would help blend the building into its context. The building concept was developed to meet the client brief of a highly sustainable home and to address the wonderful landscape surrounding the plot. The building’s form of projecting ‘planes’ was developed as a way of managing these constraints - the planes create deep overhangs floating over the glazed areas to ensure excessive solar gain is eliminated. Shorelines also boasts carefully integrated sustainable technology which complements a thermally efficient envelope, championing the fabric first approach to sustainable design that creates a high-performing building envelope. This significantly reduces energy consumption and waste, making the most of the available resources while minimising the impact on the environment. Gensler walks the talk when we say, cities and offices are places where we connect humans to humans. And - we mean it when we say we are committed to reducing carbon emissions through every means available through the #architecture #interiordesign practice. The Power of Design! #gensler #transformation
Bert Oliva and I are proud to announce that Gensler Tampa is moving to Thousand & One at Water Street Tampa at the end of the year! Moving our office to Thousand & One made perfect sense for our firm. As the largest interior design firm and one of the largest architecture firms in Tampa, we are eager to create a destination that caters to our incredible talent and embodies the kind of environment that we advise our clients to be in. Gensler has led the industry in its focus & research on the future of cities – where resilient design, walkability, and mixed-use districts will be essential. Water Street Tampa provides that, and embraces the sustainability, urban design, and workplace trends that our firm has seen in recent years. And as the world’s first WELL-Precertified district, it underscores Gensler’s Vision 2030 commitment to climate action. In our time at Rivergate Tower, we’ve demonstrated how the workplace can be reimagined and reinvigorated for future tenants. Before we moved in, multiple floors in the Cubes had sat vacant for nearly 25 years, but the investments and improvements that we made to the building over the last five years have been transformational in creating community and encouraging our people. We have been proud to call Rivergate Tower “home” for the last five years, and we are extremely grateful to stay in Downtown Tampa and make our mark in the burgeoning community at Thousand & One. Thank you to Strategic Property Partners for their support in making this move possible. #gensler #genslerdesign #architecture #design #moving https://lnkd.in/e4AE8Nrz
