How would you know if you've achieved success? Look at it like we're in the NFL. If you were to play football, the first goal that someone has is what we call a Hall of Fame goal. This is the big goal. This is legacy. So what is your Hall of Fame goal? "I want to learn how to make money." "I want my business to grow." "I want to be an expert in my field." Remember, those are just means to an end. Think about this. If you were at your funeral and someone's on stage reading your obituary, what would they say about you? This is what your Hall of Fame goal is. What is that thing? Where are you trying to get to? Understand the direction of where you're trying to go. That's when you'll know you're moving towards your goal and achieving success.

This is me when I come bearing news that your performance dimensions are not strategically aligned and need re-alignment. 😂 Dear manager, It is that time of the year again! As we prepare to assess our direct reports, become conscious of a few biases that can make your assessment ineffective: 1. Contrast bias- where you compare employee performance to another employee's instead of the performance standards established for the role. It is very tempting I know but flee! 😄 2. Halo effect- rating an employee higher across all areas because of one thing they did well. Stay objective to the performance dimensions and remain fair for the sake of their professional development 3. Leniency effect- intentionally rating all your direct reports the same because you do not want 'trouble' or you are 'busy'. Again you rob them of valuable feedback needed for growth and productivity when you do not give accurate feedback. Remember that performance appraisal is a powerful feedback tool for professional development within the context of organizational needs. Do not weaponize it and take it seriously if you want your team to be productive and engaged. Happy 'feedbacking'!

HiPo's flying out of the 9 Blockers Matrix....Watch HiPo's slipping down the Gauss Curve....Key People slaughtered on the altars of the Equity God. And HR impassibly taking notes, ranking and re-ranking names in the middle of the Business Leaders fight, ready to prepare the Organization Vitality Report for the Managing Director. Performance Calibration: if this does not ring you a bell and all of the above sounds like nonsense to you, then as an HR you are probably missing a key experience in our profession 😂😂😂

Today I celebrate…. Today I have officially served as the Director of the Industry Initiatives Department at Employ Prince George's, Inc. for one full year! During this year I have learned a lot, here are my takeaways: 1. In order to lead, you have to learn how to pause 2. Not every situation requires an immediate solution 3. Read. And then read some more. Lastly, give yourself grace and extend it to others because you never when you’ll need that same grace yourself. Cheers 🥂 to growth!

Although they’re not my favorite team in the league, I’ve loved the display of leadership from the Las Vegas Aces this season. In particular, their ability to bring every team member into the fold, including rookie Kate Martin. It feels like a shining example of how to build your junior team members up while maintaining a winning culture. 🎓 Finding The Right Talent Kate Martin, a former player from the University of Iowa, was not expected to be selected in the 2024 WNBA draft. Yet, the Las Vegas Aces saw something special in her and made the bold decision to bring her on board, eventually giving her a spot on the team, citing her work ethic and competitive spirit, among other traits. 🤝 Embracing New Talent Veteran leaders like A'ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum have been pivotal in integrating Kate into the team. They’ve publicly embraced and recognized her eagerness to grow, ability to learn quickly, and dedication as a team player. 🌟 Celebrating Wins From celebrating her victories on the court during games to recognizing her efforts in practice, the Aces have made it clear that Kate’s success is their success. This approach boosts morale and fosters a strong sense of belonging. 🤗 Building Team Culture From day one, the Aces have included Kate in their team culture and camaraderie.
