For those that believe the RICS APC and, in particular, the interview are the gold standard for assessing the competency of surveyors I have a question? Why are we still expecting student Residential Surveyors to memorize the letters of the Approved Documents? A good understanding of how certain sections of these documents apply to residential buildings is important. Knowing the size of the British Standard bum as outlined in the appropriate document is vital. Being able to spot when the requirements in them have not been met is even more important, but do we still need students to be spending their time playing memory games so they can immediately tell you what Part L covers? Give pretty much any person in the country 30 seconds and internet access and they could give you the answer so is there still value in retaining this information? Are Surveyors who can't instantly tell you Part A covers structure not good Surveyors? (That includes me BTW). If you do answer my question please do provide examples and demonstrate understanding as these are actual useful skills. #RICS #APC #BuildingRegulations

For all our Building Surveying candidates who will be submitting their APC assessment shortly. We just wanted to share some advice from the seasoned Surveyors: 1. Finalising your submission. Complete your documents in the next week to the best of your ability - don't leave it too late for feedback, which inevitably takes longer than you'd expect. 2. Review the RICS APC candidate guide. Be clear on exactly what you need to submit and the correct format to avoid last-minute stress. 3. Communicate with your supervisor and counsellor. Tell them what you need from them between now and the submission date. Put reminders in diaries for tasks, such as sign-offs. 4. Don't go it alone. Find other people who are going through the process to share tips, tricks and accountability. 5. Don't neglect good habits. You will have formed a good routine around the APC in preparing your submission documents. Start your revision straight away so as not to lose momentum. #Buildingsurveying #apcroute #Graduatesurveyors #RICS #Surveyors #Advice #exams #prepare

Secretary, INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, YQSF || South-South Regional Coordinator, YQSF || Quantity Surveyor || Profile Optimisation Lead || I help your construction and project dreams stay on budget and on track.
......and the YQSF event came to an end. The first day We understand the importance of the QS profession and as such went on a technical site visit for members to gain practical knowledge of the cause, it was an educating session, especially for the QS students of Rivers State University. The second day We went in for the quiz competition for only the students and we had different prizes for the three winners. On the last day we had an inspiring lecture on "The Future of Quantity Surveying Profession." With eagerness, we gathered around to listen to the wisdom of two luminaries in our field: QS Otonye Ekine(FNIQS) and QS Abayomi Anifowose(FNIQS). Their words resonated deeply within us, urging us to embrace growth, innovation, and adaptability. Awards were also presented to deserving members who have ensured the growth of the Young Quantity Surveyors in Rivers State. In the end, our adventure was not merely a technical site visit, a quiz competition, or even a lecture – it was a profound journey of growth, and empowerment thus far for the NIQS Young Quantity Surveyors Forum Rivers State Chapter. Our story continues, and with every step, we redefine the boundaries of what's possible in the world of Quantity Surveying. Together, we stand tall, architects of the future, and advocates for excellence. And so, with passion in our hearts and knowledge in our hands, we continue to carve our destiny – illuminating the path for aspiring Quantity Surveyors and leaving behind a legacy of brilliance that will endure through the ages. It was indeed a successful event. #quantitysurveying #construction #event #yqsf

Having a Lawful Development Certificate is a wise precaution when starting a new development or change of use to confirm that it is lawful and complies with planning regulations. Read the article by Paul Uttley to discover how it can prevent uncertainty or disputes about the planning status of a development, or the use of the land or property, when it comes to sale. https://lnkd.in/eSRjeqMU
