Yes, it takes the Brits a few hours longer than Canadians and Americans to count the votes on election night. But the 🇬🇧 UK puts 🇨🇦 Canada and the 🇺🇸 States to shame when it comes to a smooth and prompt transition of power. 24 hours for the outgoing PM to resign, a successor installed, and a new Cabinet to begin operating. Wow. Canada takes two weeks for all that; the USA two months (and in the USA, the "peaceful transfer of power" is increasingly accompanied by a dangerous predisposition to challenge basic legitimacy of outcomes, involving every new Administration for the past quarter-century: Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden). [And 🙌 to Starmer for his recurring pledge of "country first, party second". We should chisel that in stone over the entrance to the House of Commons for MPs to take note of every day.]

Country first, party second. I held my first Cabinet meeting this morning. My government is ready to serve the people of Britain.

Canada is ruled by a tyrant dictator and the UK may as well be ran by the wombles. The only thing that matters for any and all government is that they stop with incessant overreach and get back to doing the basics well!

Why can't we have that in Canada - serve country first, party second. The opposite seems to be true in Canada

Something to be learned here, but I doubt it will cause a wiff!

Rick Anderson indeed. An example for #canada to emulate. Perhaps Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could take notice?

The modalities of government transition are fascinating to compare. Starmer’s pledge unsurprising given the myopia and incompetence of the series of administrations he is replacing.
