One of the most inspiring sessions that I attended in Davos this year revealed to me the incredible work that is under way by social entrepreneurs in Brazil, powered by AI. Many other developing countries are also deploying GenAI “off the grid”, given the portable, self-contained nature of small language models – once built. It’s a stark contrast from the wave of jurisdictional regulation making the headlines in the EU, which begs the question of what really governs the world of AI? If it's not borders or legislation, is it more the levels of innovation and collaboration? https://lnkd.in/e3UcPgF5

🇪🇺 vs 🇬🇧 : The Battle of AI regulation starts now. Following closely after the EU's AI Act, the UK has unveiled its AI Regulatory White Paper. This is a pivotal moment for AI regulation, highlighting divergent approaches: the UK's flexible, innovation-first strategy versus the EU's structured, ethical framework. 🔍 I've asked Chat GPT to compare both frameworks. It reveals stark differences: the UK’s framework promotes rapid development, while the EU’s approach offers a potentially stronger trust and quality signal to global markets. ➡️ EU Startups, Take Note: The choice between regulatory flexibility and ethical rigor presents a complex landscape. As the EU fine-tunes its AI Act, your involvement is crucial. Engage in discussions, advocate for balanced regulation, and help shape a startup-friendly ecosystem. Let's work together to influence a regulatory environment that fosters innovation, ensures ethical standards, and enhances global competitiveness for EU startups. Digital Europe's warning hits the nail on the head! Overregulation could smother the growing AI industry in Europe. With only 8% of European companies using AI and a meager 3% of global AI unicorns being European, the last thing we need is to handcuff our startups with a regulatory straitjacket. Compliance costs that could soar past €300,000? That's not regulation; that's an innovation killer. A risk-based approach? Absolutely. But drowning foundation models and GPAI in red tape isn't risk management; it's risking Europe's spot on the global AI stage. Europe, we can do better. Let's regulate smart, not hard. Thoughts on this delicate balance between fostering innovation and ensuring responsible AI development? #AI #AiAct #artificialintelligence #revolutionizeREGwithTECH #RegPac
