High Quality Rural Care – Is it a distant dream? In India, we continue to face a multiplicity of issues in delivering high quality care to every corner of the country. The first step towards designing an ideal rural healthcare solution is to identify the hurdles that our care providers face to deliver last-mile care every single day. Some of them are: - AFFORDABILITY: The solution has to be easily affordable, to ensure that it can provide easy & wide access to care. - PORTABILITY: The solution should be pocket-size & easily portable, so that it can be used in OPD, in health camps and can also be carried in to patient’s homes for Home care – especially for Senior citizens, expectant moms, etc. - MULTIPLE TESTS: The solution should be able to perform 60+ tests – including critical vital tests, blood & urine checks & basic function tests for Heart, Liver, Kidney, NCD, Anemia, etc., Auscultations, FHR/UA for prenatal care etc. - RAPID TESTING: It should perform all tests within minutes to ensure quick diagnosis & treatment - HIGH ACCURACY: Tests should be performed with 95+% accuracy as compared to Gold Standard & Lab quality reports - EASE-OF-USE & LOW-COST RESOURCES : Asha workers should be able to use the solution to deliver care - LOW DEPENDENCE ON DOCTORS/NURSES AT POINT OF CARE: The Solution should enable Asha workers to handle all eClinic & care delivery tasks, while Doctors can be made available on Cloud for interventions & treatment - NEEDS TO WORK IN LOW RESOURCE SETTINGS: It should be able to work offline without internet or local network and also should work on battery – if there is no power - LOW SET-UP TIME: eClinic set-up should be done in a few hours - MASSIVE SCALABILITY: The solution should be easily & massively scalable The above hurdles were taken up as a design challenge by RHEMOS Health - a Pune, India based digital health company with a mission to deliver hospital-grade care - anytime, anywhere. The result was the RHEMOS Health Station - a unique and comprehensive rural-care solution, designed to address ALL the hurdles identified above. The Health Station combines a hand-held, portable, certified medical device with an App/Cloud based Telemedicine platform. It enables rapid and accurate health checks & diagnostics to measure 60+ vitals & blood/urine bio-markers & instantly transmits test results to App & Cloud for remote Doctor interventions, tele-consultations & prescriptions. The Station works on Battery & Bluetooth, can work offline (without Network/Wifi), costs less than Rs. 5000/month and can be used by Asha workers for primary/chronic/emergency & pre-natal care and also to conduct health camps for NCD & Anaemia detection. Over the past 3 years, RHEMOS has been adopted by over 125+ healthcare & rural care providers and is working across 18 States treating 400,000 patients every month. How does India deliver “Care” to rural communities through Digital Health? The mission of an ideal Digital Health Solution should be to deliver hospital-grade care, anytime and anywhere across India & the globe. The Solution should enable multiple health screens & deliver high-quality care regardless of whether the rural community has a local Doctor or a trained Nurse or whether they have power or WiFi, etc. While challenges like power & WiFi can be addressed through technology, how does one deliver health screens & diagnostics without the presence of a local Doctor or Nurse? Enter the ASHA Worker. THE most critical “Non-Technology” component of our Digital Health Solution. It is the Asha worker who ensures that all tasks related to creating a patient profile, capturing patient symptoms, and measuring patient vitals, are completed efficiently despite the unavailability of qualified medical professionals. The Asha workers also visit patient’s homes to provide door-to-door care – especially for older patients with mobility issues and for expectant mothers who may not be able to visit a clinic. And finally, there’s an emotional element to delivering good quality “patient care” that cannot be fulfilled by ANY technology, and which is warmly delivered by the Asha worker. The Asha workers also need to be provided with a digital health solution that has advanced telemedicine capabilities but is extremely easy to use. That was the design mantra for the @RHEMOS Health Station. India’s smallest & easy-to-use rural care solution. It enables Asha workers to administer 60+ critical vitals, blood/urine & pre-natal tests in village PHCs. The Health Station can also be carried to a patient’s home to deliver high-quality care ensuring huge patient convenience. Once it measures vitals, it transmits test results to App & Cloud to enable remote Doctor interventions & treatment. RHEMOS also works offline if cellular networks are unavailable & enables local health screens and collects test results, which are all transmitted to cloud once the cellular network is restored. It is also designed to work on Battery & Bluetooth to ensure no dependence on power or WiFi. And finally, with the capability to measure 60+ vitals & bio-markers, it can be used by Asha workers to deliver comprehensive primary care, chronic care, prenatal care, NCD & Anaemia detection health camps, etc. In conclusion, it is the Asha workers that define the success of digital health & enable us to connect rural patients with remote doctors for treatment. They reduce our reliance on medical staff and drastically cut care delivery costs. They accelerate rural care implementations, and ensure easy access to affordable and high-quality care in remote and underserved rural communities, which also makes this a massively scalable initiative. Delivering the promises of Digital Health.... Affordable, Hospital-grade, Data-driven & Patient-centric Home care, Eldercare, and Rural care.
Does the term “Democratization of Healthcare” apply to Rural India? We have heard a lot of people and companies talk about this subject. It is “supposed” to mean that every citizen of our great country should be able to afford and have easy access to high quality of care wherever they live. But we ALL know that this is so far from the truth, that “truth” may not even be seen – even as a distant speck on the horizon. The truth is that rural India will never have the same quality of care as urban India. Even if they did, will they be able to afford it? These and similar questions need to be answered and unless one spends quality time in identifying the primary issues and hurdles faced by care providers and patients in rural & tribal India, we will never be even close to designing a solution to democratize care. This is exactly what we did for years. Identified pain points & captured wish-lists from rural providers and rural patients and leveraged cutting edge digital health technologies to design a rural care solution that can – for the first time - attempt to TRULY democratize healthcare. Announcing the launch of the RHEMOS Spotcare Health Station - India’s first Telehealth solution that addresses ALL the care delivery issues faced by rural care providers & patients. So ask us any critical question related to delivery of hospital grade rural care and you will only hear one answer. YES WE CAN! Can you set up your solution/clinic in less than a day? – YES WE CAN Can you measure over 65 vitals to provide complete health screens & diagnostics? - YES WE CAN Can you carry all medical devices involved in a small pouch? – YES WE CAN Can you deliver medical grade accuracy for tests? - YES WE CAN Can you perform all tests rapidly, in a few minutes? - YES WE CAN Can you set up the clinic in tribal & rural communities? - YES WE CAN Can it work without electricity & without internet? – YES WE CAN Can you provide comprehensive care in a patient’s home? - YES WE CAN Can you run the clinic without Doctors, using only low cost resources like Asha workers – YES WE CAN Can you provide interventions, treatment & prescriptions thru Teleconsultations? - YES WE CAN Can the clinic be used primary, chronic, pre-natal care & also for NCD / Anaemia detection camps? - YES WE CAN Can the clinic deliver personalized, data-driven & patient-centric care even in remote villages? - YES WE CAN Can you set up the complete clinic with devices for less than Rs. 5000/month – YES WE CAN Can you scale this massively to cover lakhs of villages in India? - YES WE CAN Can you generate patient level and State level population analytics? – YES WE CAN Over 1 Crore people have already experienced and have been impacted by the power of RHEMOS Health. Delivering the promises of Digital Health.... Affordable, Hospital-grade, Data-driven & Patient-centric Home care, Eldercare, and Rural care.
Can Digital Health Technology alone deliver a Healthy Future for Rural India? When it comes to delivering high-quality healthcare to remote rural communities, we hear a lot about Digital Health & Telemedicine platforms, etc., and how they can deliver healthcare to villages. However, rural India comes with it’s own set of unique and practical challenges that - in many cases - brings digital health technology to its knees. e.g. - We don't have enough trained Doctors & Nurses to physically administer tests & deliver healthcare in remote communities? - If nurses are not available, how will we measure vitals, perform blood/urine tests, etc. for patients in villages? - If there is no cellular network available, how will the telemedicine technology communicate with city based Doctors & Specialists? - How can we provide Affordable & Lab-quality diagnostics in a village for blood & urine tests? - Will the vitals testing & Lab equipment work with intermittent power and WiFi? - Do elders & pregnant women still have to visit a clinic or can we deliver care to them in their homes? These and many other similar questions have hounded global research organizations for years in their efforts to deliver high-quality last-mile care to rural communities. At RHEMOS Health, these were the very same challenges that we set for ourselves when we embarked on our mission to deliver hospital-grade care, anytime, anywhere. Each of these challenges became an important design feature that our solution had to have to ensure that we addressed all possible hurdles for delivering a healthy future for rural India. The result is our RHEMOS Health Station. - India’s smallest, portable & easy-to-use medical-grade digital health solution - Transforms the power of digital health by enabling Asha workers to administer 60+ critical vitals, blood, urine & pre-natal tests in village PHCs without the presence of qualified medical professionals - Can also be taken to a patient’s home to deliver high-quality care @home - Transmits test results to App & Cloud for remote Doctor interventions & treatment - Works perfectly well in offline mode if there’s no cellular network to enable local care delivery. Transmits all data once you receive cellular network. - Works on Battery & Bluetooth. No dependence on power or WiFi - Extremely low & affordable monthly costs - Delivers comprehensive primary care, chronic care, prenatal care, NCD & Anaemia detection health camps, etc. - Delivers population health analytics - Massively scalable RHEMOS Health Station is an innovative healthcare delivery solution that accelerates rural care implementation and ensures easy access to affordable and high-quality healthcare in remote and underserved rural communities. Providing affordable & hospital-grade healthcare to the hinterlands of India has always been a challenge. For starters, there aren’t enough qualified doctors and nurses. Also, with a limited number of PHCs & CHCs in these parts, it is a huge challenge for the residents of rural India to make their way to the nearest health center - especially if they need any kind of emergency care for seniors or prenatal care for expectant mothers. At RHEMOS Health, we are disrupting the way rural healthcare is delivered. Instead of making the patients visit the hospital, we are now enabling hospitals to visit the patients instead. Our RHEMOS Health Station consists of portable multi-vital pocket-sized devices that can be carried into a PHC/CHC, a patient’s home, or any other point-of-care. The Health Station measures 60+ vitals & bio-markers accurately & rapidly and transmits all test results to cloud for remote Doctor interventions & treatment. And, it does not require qualified nurses to operate it but can be used by Asha workers. The certified & medical-grade RHEMOS Health Station is now bringing high-quality and affordable healthcare to remote rural communities across India. Today RHEMOS is the preferred choice for 125+ healthcare providers, rural care companies, 18 State Governments & Global NGOs, treating 400,000 patients every month for primary, chronic, emergency & prenatal care.
