Olympia Financial Group (OLY.TSX) has announced a $0.60 March monthly dividend, implying a forward annual dividend of $7.20. The company also reported record full-year financial results that beat earnings expectations, with $100M of revenue, $24M of net earnings, and EPS of $9.96. After selling off from all-time highs on profit-taking on Friday and concerns about potential declining interest rates on Monday, there is good news for the stock. Yesterday the BOC held interest rates steady and indicated that they are likely to decline at a much slower rate than expected. Since half of its revenue comes from interest on held assets, stable rates improve the earnings outlook for the OLY stock. The stock responded positively to the news yesterday. 🚀 In response to the favorable macro conditions, a covering analyst has increased the earnings forecast to an EPS of $10.38 and raised the fair value estimate for the stock to $125.00. OLY has provided an ROE of 97% over the past year, which is the highest among all of its peers, making it a strong investment opportunity (a 7% yield is nice, too!). EBITDA calculation is one of the key activities which both sides of the table (buy-side and sell-side) will undertake while undergoing M&A transaction. EBITDA numbers are often adjusted to reflect the true picture of operating profit of the business by sell-side team. Quality of earnings is an important exercise which buy-side team undertakes. Mismatch of adjusted EBITDA (calculation by both sides) happens in nearly 20% of these types of transactions and one of the key reasons why transactions fail. Even slight mistrust in data is a very powerful deterrent for Buy-side (especially in cross-border transactions) during on-going M&A. Today we announced our fourth quarter 2023 earnings. Net income was $29.0 million or $0.23 per diluted share for the quarter. Net income for the year ended December 31, 2023 was $135.0 million or $1.06 per diluted share – an increase of $1.3 million, or 1.0%, compared to the prior year. Year-to-date commercial loan growth of $677.2 million, or 17.1%, has pushed our overall commercial loan mix from 36% of total loans at the beginning of the year to over 41% as of December 31. As part of today’s announcement, the Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.20 per share payable on February 14, 2024 to shareholders of record as of February 2, 2024.
