Vascular dementia happens when blood flow to the brain is reduced, damaging brain cells. It can start suddenly after a stroke or slowly from multiple minor strokes. This condition might cause memory loss and thinking difficulties, similar to Alzheimer's. About 5% to 10% of dementia cases are vascular dementia, often part of mixed dementia. Symptoms vary and can include confusion, trouble speaking, and physical difficulties like poor balance. They can appear suddenly after a major stroke or gradually due to small vessel disease. Diagnosis guidelines vary, but in 2011, major health organizations made a joint statement to improve awareness and research on vascular contributions to cognitive change. #VascularDementia #BrainHealth #StrokeAwareness #MemoryLoss #CognitiveImpairment #Alzheimers #DementiaCare #MentalHealthAwareness #StrokePrevention #HealthyBrain

Today marks World Alzheimer’s Day, a day to reflect on the global impact of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. With over 55 million affected worldwide, a recent report from World Health Organisation emphasises that the current state of dementia care is insufficient. It's a poignant reminder that the effects of this condition ripple far beyond individuals. Addressing Alzheimer’s necessitates thinking beyond local boundaries and considering a global perspective. However, each one of us holds the power to effect change, even in our own spheres. By spreading awareness about brain health, prevention, and research, we can collectively combat the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s. Together, let's work towards a world free from this debilitating disease! 🌎 . . . . . . #worldalzheimersday #WorldAlzheimersDay #Alzheimers #AlzheimersDisease #AlzheimersDay #Dementia #DementiaAwareness #communication #MeathSLT
