The overwhelming majority of #Americans ask themselves "what kind of #America do I want to live in ?" prior to casting their vote for President/VP. The #Democrat strategy is "never Trump." The #Republican strategy is "Biden is too old and out of touch" and the "#Project2025 agenda." Contrary to virtually all of my peers (55+), I ask the question "what kind of *world* do I want to live in ?" We can only dream the "what ifs" of past history, but can we not learn *something* from the past ? Perhaps if country after country after country did not reject Europe's millions of Jewish refugees to send them back to the gas chambers, "Zionism" would not be what it is today. Perhaps if the world did not turn a blind eye to the Nazis and news coming from Europe about their slaughter of Jews, quicker intervention would have happened. Neither candidate, in my opinion, is fit to "lead" the U.S. I loathe trump, #MAGA, and the #GOP, but I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who *unconditionally* supports #Israel and the slaughter of #Palestinians through *increased* sales of bombs and attacking international bodies. #Palestine #FreePalestine #Palestinian #Genocide #maga #gop #democratic #GenocidalIsrael #VoteConscience

I am running out of things to say about House Republicans’ inability to elect a new speaker. They have rejected some of the more prominent candidates who were always expected to seek the job. In the days ahead, they will either have to elect a speaker with a much lower profile or allow the current speaker pro tem (Congressman Patrick McHenry) to lead with the authority that an elected speaker has for a temporary period to allow for legislation with upcoming deadlines to pass. This process will require a few more days at least. Perhaps the election of a speaker who doesn’t want the job for long but would potentially be a competent replacement over the next 14 months (until the new session in 2025) would be the best option. One such candidate is Congressman Jack Bergman from Michigan. He’s 74 years old and a well-decorated retired US Marine Corps lieutenant general (relevant skills for this time). He’s a solid conservative but not an activist who can’t work with Democrats. He’s personally well-liked by his colleagues and has a compelling family history – he and his wife have five children and ten grandchildren. I’m not touting Bergman for the job, but he has the type of profile that could be utilized in this delicate time and lead to the speaker’s office. Other lower-profile House Republicans not well known nationally have similar profiles and will emerge over the next few days. One may emerge and surprise everyone.

I don’t see how a #Trump election in 2024 could be accepted as legitimate given that he deliberately fomented an #insurrection and therefore should be barred from running again under the #14thAmendment. His name should not appear on any ballots. The criminal case pertaining to this logically needs to be decided well before the November 2024 election. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment reads, “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.” Note that the legal criteria for invoking this amendment is significantly lower than actually engaging or inciting insurrection. Giving “aid or comfort” to insurrectionists is sufficient justification and Trump clearly and egregiously gave and continues to give aid and comfort to them. Also note that the amendment requires a two-thirds vote in each house of Congress *to waive it*, not to invoke it. So notwithstanding Senate Republicans’ demonstration of pathetic cowardice during his second impeachment trial, he is still vulnerable to 14th Amendment legal arguments and the Justice Department and states should make every effort to have him removed from the 2024 ballot. And if he needs to be removed in a more permanent manner, so be it. What would happen to the national psyche if Trump were actually elected to another term? Our stress fractures generated by his last term would deteriorate into outright fragmentation. I would hope it would cause major elements within the core of the political spectrum to gravitate from reform to revolution. #2024election
For many, Donald Trump’s first term triggered a fight-or-flight stress response, Jennifer Senior writes—with real, physical consequences. What would his reelection do to our brains?

Couldn’t have said it better! 👏 There is real racism, and then either perceived or contrived racism. #reality #perceptions #deception Words, and their definitions, matter 📖. While I understand Sam is speaking to this one topic in particular, the cover of anti-Asian racism, the idea applies to many situations nowadays. #factsoverfeelings #specialinterest #influence Time to have grown-up discussions 🗣️ and get adults back into positions of decision making. We won’t move forward otherwise. #cdnpoli #future #government #federalgovernment #liberal #racism #discrimination #geopolitics #motivation #underlying #truthmatters
Key post from former Conservative MP Nelly Shin. Far be it from me to tell Ottawa press corps how to report (actually I don't mind making suggestions ;). By not forcefully questioning Justin Trudeau when he cites Anti Asian Racism with regards to questions of PRC interference, reporters are allowing Trudeau to give himself cover, and to amplify Chinese intelligence's favourite method of deflecting scrutiny ... there are too many problems to get into in less than an essay, and I don't bother showing up to Press Scrums usually. But Trudeau's dishonesty should be challenged very directly on this point .... there is real racism, and then there is exactly what Dr. Qiu and her husband claimed in their appeals (if you read the filings). These senior PLA assets claimed they were targets of Canadian racism. Time to grow up Canada and distinguish the real from MSS and PLA info warfare.
Three years ago, Trudeau cried racism to block debates on the firing of the two scientists from the high security lab in Winnipeg. Now we know why.

Human Rights' conditions Investigative research analyst, monitoring, documenting and reporting Human Rights' abuses.
Implications for Human Rights The Winnipeg lab case raises concerns about the potential implications for human rights, particularly in relation to: Academic Freedom: The firing of the two scientists without due process or a fair hearing could have a chilling effect on academic freedom and research collaboration. Freedom of Expression: The government's accusations of racism against Conservative MPs who raised legitimate concerns about national security could discourage public debate and criticism of government actions. Transparency and Accountability: The government's failure to fully disclose information about the scientists' firing and its attempts to block the release of unredacted documents raise concerns about transparency and accountability. International Human Rights Law The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which Canada has ratified, guarantees the right to freedom of expression, academic freedom, and fair trial. The case could potentially be seen as a violation of these rights. Recommendations To address the human rights concerns raised by the Winnipeg lab case, the government should: * Conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the firing of the two scientists. * Ensure that all individuals are treated fairly and with due process, regardless of their national origin or political affiliation. * Respect and protect academic freedom and freedom of expression. * Be transparent and accountable in its actions, and provide full disclosure of information to the public. Conclusion The Winnipeg lab case highlights the importance of balancing national security concerns with human rights protections. The government must take steps to ensure that its actions do not undermine fundamental freedoms or create a climate of fear and suppression. I strongly recommend Rob K. Henderson's memoir, Troubled. It is an understated yet heart-rending account of weathering the turbulence of foster care and familial instability. Henderson has since gone on to complete a bachelor's degree at Yale and a PhD at Cambridge after serving in the Air Force. The latter portions of his story focus on his experiences that led him to formulate the concept of "luxury beliefs," which are "ideas and opinions that confer status on the upper class, while inflicting costs on the lower classes." I think this will be one of the higher impact releases of 2024. My full review is at Substack: https://lnkd.in/gaapkJpA
