It's time for colleges and universities to re-engage adult learners who have some college, no credential so they can finish what they started. We (higher education, public service agencies, political leaders, concerned citizens) should be paying attention … 1. The enrollment cliff is here (we’re running out of traditional aged 18 year olds) 2. Most jobs will require additional training & upskilling (credentials) 3. Businesses are already noticing a severe worker shortage… 4. Adult learners are more likely to be (a) location bound and (b) interested in credentials aligned with regional jobs 5. 🧩🧩🧩We have the puzzle pieces - credentials, adult learners, employers ready to hire - when do we put them together? 📢🔈🔊Are we going to wait until this is an EMERGENCY? 🚨

With declining higher education enrollment rates, an emergence of #skillsfirst hiring, and rising skepticism among #GenZ youth when it comes to traditional high school-to-college pathways, federal policy has not evolved to keep up with today’s learners or the economy, and the #HigherEducationAct (HEA) is in need of a major update. In partnership with American Student Assistance, JFF has outlined a few specific recommendations for updating the HEA to help our systems expand foundational, high-quality education-to-career models for young adults pursuing nondegree pathways: https://lnkd.in/eZkT2Kbc #HigherEd #TodaysStudents

Federal policy has not kept pace with the reality of #TodaysStudents or the economy, and the #HigherEducationAct is in desperate need of a comprehensive update. But with declining higher education enrollment rates, an emergence of skills-based hiring, and more #GenZ youth becoming skeptical of the high school-to-college route, federal policymakers must do more to remove some of the more restrictive aspects of the legislation and to encourage innovation, embed career-connected learning directly into the curriculum, drive continuous improvement, and close race- and class-based gaps in educational attainment. Read JFF's policy recommendations on updating the #HEA to help our systems expand foundational and high-quality education-to-career models for young adults: https://lnkd.in/dfcehQaz #HigherEd American Student Assistance

Assistant Director Career Services @La Sierra University | Relationship Builder & Student Support Advocate- Higher education professional helping students with their future
As someone who worked in the educational system for 8 years, it’s sad to see an increase in teachers quitting and a decline in education. Even I had to step away and change career paths for multiple reasons so I understand. So the question is where is the system failing teachers? And how can we make it better? #education #educationmatters #elementaryeducation #teachers #support

Interesting insights from recent studies are illuminating the teacher pipeline landscape, uncovering nuances in teacher shortages and turnover rates. While there's a modest uptick in enrollment and completion of teacher-preparation programs, turnover remains a concern, especially in schools supporting low-income communities. Despite a rise in job opportunities, the supply of teachers isn't meeting demand. It's crucial to prioritize strategies that enhance retention and improve working conditions alongside recruitment efforts to effectively address the persistent challenges. #TeacherPipeline #RetentionMatters

Beware of deception and keep your focus sharp. 1. Education brings a return of about 9-10%. This means that every year of learning generates about a 10% increase in earnings annually. 2. Historically, it used to be higher for those with basic education(High school graduates)but currently showing higher returns for tertiary education graduates. These returns are better than returns on stock market, with increased returns for WOMEN and the highest returns in lower-income countries. #THINKINGSTRAIGHT #BeInformed #education #sdg4

Given international evidence on how important career education is in supporting young people's transition from school I hope we can collect more robust data to inform policy decisions in WA around career education in schools. "There is limited data about WA young people’s feelings about their transition from school. The data that is available suggests that a significant number (28.5%) of WA Year 12 students in government schools do not feel that their school prepared them for their career goals. No additional data is publicly available on why this is the case. School governing bodies ought to explore these results further and consider policy and practices that will address students’ concerns in this regard. Data gaps Limited data exists on WA young people’s views on their transition from school into further study or employment. In particular, there is limited data on the experiences and views of Aboriginal young people and young people with disability. Without data on this transition it is difficult to assess how the education system is meeting the needs of WA young people." Dr Michael Openshaw Tony Buti Lisa Rodgers https://lnkd.in/g2SY3kSF

Teacher shortages in the UK are a pressing concern. 📚 Recent statistics indicate that secondary schools are particularly affected, with a shortfall of 3,000 teachers in key subjects like Maths and Science. This gap is set to widen, with pupil numbers projected to rise by 15% over the next decade. But it's not all doom and gloom. Opportunities for professional development are expanding, with a 25% increase in CPD offerings tailored to educators. This is a crucial step in not only retaining talent but also in enhancing the quality of education. I believe that the key to overcoming these challenges lies in a dual approach: actively promoting teaching as a rewarding career path to attract fresh talent, and investing in ongoing development to nurture the educators we already have. 🌱 If you're facing similar challenges or have insights to share, let's connect. Together, we can forge strategies to ensure our educational institutions remain robust and our children's futures bright. #EducationUK #TeacherShortage #ProfessionalDevelopment

In schools, we need to make this very clear that assessments are not of students but of teachers, parents and community. Students are just helping us know how effective teachers are in making sure that students have learnt. Assessments reports are for reflection to know how parents and community contibuting in child’s growth. When any student fails, its failure of teachers, parents and entire community. If a child at grade 2 is not able to read and do basic calculation, what teachers, parents and community were doing ? Weren’t they aware about this before assessments? Weren’t they even able to teach this basics ? Its responsibility and accountability of teachers, parents and community together that each and every child is at grade level. And its responsibility and accountability of school leaders to make sure this is happening. There was study in one state about teachers remaining absent in schools !! In government schools teachers skiping classes unofficially !!! Only one teacher will remain in school, combine all grades together and then teach !!! Is this how we will become developed country ?? Isn’t government aware about this ? In any case government has failed. How many our schools do have library ? How many our schools do have Labs ? How many our schools do have sports facilities ? How many our schools do career counselling ? How many schools following NEP guidelines or have even read NEP ? Forget about this, as per reports, even all our schools not having toilets !!! PMShri sheme is going to help schools in developing infrastructure but this need to be done at war level. We need to make sure that every policy are effectively being implemented and need to achieve 100% outcome anyhow. Its not only at school level, its at college level also. Engineering colleges don’t have CROs !!! Students can purchase readymade projects and submit reports !! Students are just roting codes in era of AI !!! There are no opportunities for research nor internships. Howmany reserch papers our engineering colleges are publishing ? UGC, NAAC, NBA have failed ensuring qualities. There are professors whom company may not place forget about students. Education ministry has failed. I expected our electied government and opposition to talk on health and education. But they are busy about blaming each other and fooling us. Launching schemes are not enough. Like me or you writing something and talking is not enough. We need to work. Government, institutions, parents, students, we all need to work together. Without effective education- poverty, unemployment, underemployment, economy, quality life, HDI nothing going to improve. 90% people are earning <25k per month and cannot expect better life with this. For 10 private jobs, 1800 people rushed this week in Bharuch. Numbers for government job vacancies and applicant is there, what about people who are not getting selected ? To see dream and show dream makes feel good. Lets now dreams become reality.

Recruiting Generation Z to traditional teacher education programs at colleges is challenging. The teaching profession lacks national compensation support makes it an uphill battle to attract new talents. Many states rely on non-credential or emergency teachers to fill their school teachers' shortage needs. We must embrace a sustainable plan and consider the transformative potential of AI, which will open new doors in education. Understanding and adapting to the changes in students' learning patterns is crucial. We were unprepared for the pandemic and its aftermath, but that doesn't mean we must give up. Let's push forward strategically and systematically to recruit and sustain qualified teachers. It's an opportunity to transform education for the better. Do Good.
