This is just one more example of regulatory failure. As this piece so cogently points out, laws are useful only if there are sufficient resources to enforce them. The deregulation movement, particularly in the context of healthcare, has resulted in patient suffering and excess mortality. The stories in this piece are heartbreaking. And the failure to enforce standards is a problem at both the state and federal level. If we actually cared about human life and were truly compassionate, we would ensure that unhealthy, unsafe conditions in institutions providing healthcare would not be tolerated. #nursinghomes #wellbeing #healthcare #regulation #enforcement #patients
