A clear sign of good hospitality. You believe in making people happy. Because the best people in hospitality are happy people. “The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” - Mark Twain They love to make people happy. It's that simple. Here are 5 of the most common things I see talented, successful and happy people who work in hospitality doing: For hospitality professionals aiming to ensure guest happiness, these positive actions can be highly effective: 1. Prioritizing Guests While on the Job 2. Prioritizing themselves when off the job. 3. Study human psychology 4. Look for positives in everything 5. Handle guest feedback stoically Remember: Find ways to make other people happy Or don't — and miss out on the best way to make yourself happy as well. Have you ever spoken too soon? This is one of the biggest mistakes I see young people making just starting in hospitality. In their eagerness to please, they either promise more than they can deliver or distort what they know to be the actual situation. Bending the truth in any situation is, of course, a problem. But the biggest problem with doing this has more to do with the fact that by acting this way, they are essentially drawing attention to themselves instead of the guest. Another problem with this kind of behavior is that it usually spills internally. A person who talks with guests this way also probably talks with his or her peers this way as well. Which antagonizes their peers and makes him a laughing stock when he doesn't deliver. I encourage everyone I manage to accept challenges. But I also encourage them to do so within the realm of multiple mini-realistic expectations. That way, they can contribute to his or her personal development through self-realization rather than contribute to identity-crushing humiliation and frustration. What is true in the hospitality industry is also true in business and in life. Stop focusing on trying to be noticed. Start focusing on the best way you can add value. As the saying goes: The best way to become interesting is to be interested. Wish you were here. Tom #WilsonArkansas #Hospitality #leadership #tourism #travel #hotels #luxury #ruralcommunities #

Grow Where You're Planted. In the ever-evolving landscape of hospitality, the true essence of growth often lies not in the destinations we seek but in the soil where we stand. As a hospitality expert, I've witnessed firsthand how the industry thrives on resilience, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Whether you're greeting guests at the front desk or crafting unforgettable experiences behind the scenes, every role in hospitality is a seedbed of potential. The secret? Embrace where you are, nurture your skills, and be ready to bloom in ways you never imagined. Remember, the most vibrant flowers often blossom in the most unexpected places. Let's cultivate a mindset of growth, no matter where we're planted. Because in hospitality, every challenge is an opportunity, and every day is a chance to exceed expectations. #HospitalityLeaders #GrowthMindset #HospitalityEducation #BeTheBloom

Conversations with Peng Sum Choe always bring plenty of takeaways. This time, my haul includes the transformation story of the familiar Pan Pacific brand, the power of what he calls "Asian graceful luxury", Pan Pacific Hotels Group's sustainability dedication even when efforts are not visible to guests, his vision for building a tight-knit team culture where every staff "owns the business", and an exciting research project to improve hotel operations. Our recent conversation had a far more positive tone, compared to the one we had on Aug 18, 2020 where he spoke of mustering a team hurt by the effects of the pandemic and efforts to keep business going in tough times. You can read our 2020 conversation here: https://lnkd.in/gMahCRe2 The one common thread in both conversations, I noticed, is Peng Sum's continued belief that taking care of his people first will enable the company to achieve its business objectives. #leadership #hospitalityleaders #travelandtourism #hospitalityindustry #talentmanagement #HR

How is your team performing? Would you say your team is a high performing one? Listen as RedZone Technologies: IT & Security as a Service Provider CEO Bill Murphy and CEO Chip Conley discuss his philosophy on having a high-performance team!
I am a Difference Maker, who works with Difference Makers for the Purpose of Making a Difference. | Securing the Health, Peace of Mind and Lives of a Billion People.
In my discussion with Chip Conley he discussed with me his philosophy on building high performance teams. After disrupting the hospitality industry twice, first as the founder of Joie de Vivre Hospitality, the second-largest operator of boutique hotels in the U.S., and then as Airbnb’s Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy, leading a worldwide revolution in travel, Chip co-founded MEA (Modern Elder Academy) in January 2018. Inspired by his experience of intergenerational mentoring as a ‘modern elder’ at Airbnb, where his guidance was instrumental to the company’s extraordinary transformation from fast-growing start-up to the world’s most valuable hospitality brand, MEA is the world's first ‘midlife wisdom school.’ Our work force is getting older and the value of wisdom has never been more important! Enjoy.

Thriving in luxury hospitality demands more than just exquisite amenities, it requires exemplary leadership. As leaders, we must continually inspire and empower our teams to deliver unparalleled guest experiences. 🏨💼 In the pursuit of fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence, here are a few short-term goals to consider: 1. Cross-Training Initiatives: implement cross-training programs to allow team members to gain exposure to different roles within the hotel, fostering a deeper understanding of each other's responsibilities and enhancing overall teamwork. 2. Open Communication Channels: establish open-door policies and regular insights to ensure that all team members feel heard, valued, and supported in their roles. 3. Recognition and Rewards: recognize and reward exceptional teamwork and individual contributions, fostering a culture of appreciation and motivation. 4. Continuous Professional Development: provide opportunities for ongoing training and development to enhance skills, boost confidence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. BONUS. Regular Team Building Activities: organize frequent team-building exercises to strengthen bonds, encourage communication, and promote a sense of unity among staff members. By prioritizing these goals among others, we can cultivate a collaborative environment where every team member feels empowered to contribute their best, ultimately elevating the guest experience and setting new standards of excellence in luxury hospitality. Together, let's inspire greatness and redefine what it means to lead in the world of luxury hotels. 💫 #LuxuryHospitality #Teamwork #Leadership
