Why do you talk about Moms only? Why is this topic a Mom responsibility? Why you say this topic is pushed by (only) moms? I understand that moms are still the primary and most affected by it. But we should stop talking about moms so that we raise awareness that childcare is a mom AND DAD problem. We really put this burden onto ourselves, and we should be aware of that. Let’s start fighting for affordable childcare for FAMILIES, for PARENTS, and lets not assume moms are the only ones interested, it is a family problem, not a mom problem. If moms do not work bc they can’t afford childcare, is a family problem, one income instead of two, etc. Chikdcare is paid by the family income, both parents pay for it. It is a family problem. Parents should speak up, both.

Love, love, love that the childcare question was asked during the debate but this needs to be a conversation about parents, not just moms. Dads need to be speaking out and pushing for action too. Dads need workplaces that don’t expect “the wife” to handle kid-related emergencies and school schedules so that women have more space to let their partners handle some of that load.

YES. Thank you, Reshma. I love “the plan.” We SHOULD be asking about affordable childcare at all levels of government. And I do believe “answer the damned question” needs to be on every woman’s lips, ready to be shouted out, whenever the inevitable talk-round begins. I know I’m ready. Ladies, we need to do this. Those with young kids, living it. And those whose kids are grown, or don’t have kids, because it’s about allowing women to achieve. And when women achieve, they build stronger communities for EVERYONE.

I was so glad to see this question got asked, but so angry that the question wasn't answered. So insane.

How about asking businesses that are controlled by institutional finance? The so called “stakeholders” that are the ones choosing to disrespect their workers. Bet the finance behind every industry in the United States won’t give you the time of day either. Do the question then becomes, what are women really willing to do about it? Supposedly women are buying most of the food and clothing for a family, making car payments & buying gas. Paying electric, gas & water bills. Paying cellphone bills, trash collection, insurance, taxes and maybe even mortgages. That is what business wants women in the 21st Century to do, without child care and without living wages, so women get squeezed the hardest while working, and even harder in retirement, if they can even stop their modern slavery routine before dropping dead on the job.

Your expectations are to high, you expected a sychopant and a cadevar to answer such a question. I am sorry but this is not the place to expect an answer clearly.

Completely agree. In our house we said they should stop the answer/mute the mike unless they answer the question asked.

Reform of the entire educational system in the USA and putting mothers at the beating heart of it, is required. I’m not sure it’s more mandates, but it’s a values crystallization. For the American family to flourish, females need to be acknowledged not as small men, but as complex, multifaceted, amazing powerhouses, starting from puberty. More mothers need to lead, as you are. The USA remains a chauvinistic opaque power grab. When women realize they are being strung along, and shorted on options, they will organize to lead and change the rules.
