Quick history lesson: Did you know the U.S. government paid for #ChildCare for working moms during World War II? 📚 📺 : Aspen Ideas 2024, 'The Dilemma of Modern Parenting' . . . #AspenIdeas #Motherhood #Parenting #History #HistoryLesson
Presumably there was a time when you could leave your kids at school by 8.30 and get to work by 9.00. But now with increased traffic, it has become impossible. According to Wikipedia: "The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not offer paid parental leave. Of countries in the United Nations only the United States, Suriname, Papua New Guinea, and a few Pacific island countries do not provide paid time off for new parents either through the employer's benefits or government paid maternity and parental benefits. A study of 168 countries found that 163 guarantee paid leave to women, and 45 guarantee paid paternity leave." I encourage US women to keep speaking up for yourselves. And get yourselves into positions where you can influence the status quo. What can you change in your own sphere of influence?
The rhetoric around dads wanting to play a part is huge. Let's bring non birthing parents into the fold here and double our numbers. 👏🏽 👏🏽
Team: I firmly believe that Kidcaboo (www.kidcaboo.com) is part of the solution here. Founded by a mom who was trying to go back to work & yet couldn’t find the right childcare & safe child transpo mix. We’ve attacked the B2C “Uber for families” problem that so many others have tried. We are 6,000 female gig drivers from 20 years and up, who have a penchant for caregiving. We serve “the sandwich generation” - kids and elderly family members. Fully insured like most nannies aren’t. The right pay mix to never fumble a ride. Support us. Please. Always seeking partnership. Grants. Investors. Take a look. We’re all part of an incredibly important mission.
Very good questions. Yet the government wants to give billions and billions of dollars to Ukraine. What about the American families who can’t afford childcare. Looks like we have our priorities distorted.
I did NOT know this and it’s disappointing (to say the least) that it seems we’ve been going backwards. Thanks for sharing this new-to-me info.
I wholeheartedly agree with this! We saw how company's are able to find ways to accommodate changes, some companies just refuse to. So we as parents must collectively apply pressure so they'll listen and address these issues they just choose to ignore.
Love this! It is so important especially now with a push from so many companies to take away any support that we have been given when parents have proven to excel in their careers and family life simultaneously! It feels impossible.
Good info! I thankfully have been able to adjust the 8-5 to work remotely to support my family since 2010. I always said my work and my family work together 100% of the time.
Because the people running the show doesn’t like their own families so they would rather make money and avoid home! this country is a corporation, they thrive on MONEY not love and caregiving.

1w100% on the mark. My advice to those who believe in real-life work balance is to do the research, find a company, and make sure you work for a place that promotes families, parents, caregivers, remote work if needed, and flex time. When my wife had to go back to work after giving birth, I wanted to be there for my newborn daughter and was told I couldn't take FMLA...that was not only incorrect, but I did what my boss told me to and missed the best days with my daughter.
