Tobacco smoking is one of the world's largest #health problems. Today’s 'World No Tobacco Day 2024' will give a platform to young people across the world, who are urging governments to shield them from predatory tobacco marketing tactics. The WHO estimates that more than 8 million people die prematurely yearly from tobacco use. More than 7 million of those deaths result from direct tobacco use. About 1.3 million are non-smokers who are dying because they are exposed to second-hand smoke. Many more are suffering from #respiratory diseases or lung #cancer. Smoking by very young people continues to be widespread and is a growing problem in some countries. According to the Tobacco Atlas, the estimated number of young teen males and females 13–15 years old who smoke cigarettes or use smokeless tobacco products is approximately 50 million around the globe. In two-thirds of countries, more than 30% of current smokers started smoking daily by age 16. Today, on World Tobacco Free Day, let's remind us, that by choosing a tobacco free life, we pave the way for a healthier future. #TobaccoExposed #HealthAndWellbeing

As an individual with limited knowledge on tobacco and nicotine, I found week6’s presentation rather interesting yet insightful. I learned that the question of whether the development of e-cigarettes should be encouraged or discouraged is a complex one with both pros and cons. It depends on various factors, including public health, harm reduction, and regulation. For instance, some studies suggest that e-cigarettes are less harmful than traditional cigarettes, and they may help decrease smoking-related diseases. Encouraging smokers to switch to e-cigarettes could lead to significant public health benefits. On the other hand, the long-term health effects of e-cigarette use are not yet fully understood. Discouraging their development is a precautionary approach to avoid potential health risks that might emerge in the future. In conclusion, whether the development of e-cigarettes should be encouraged or discouraged depends on the balance between potential harm reduction for adult smokers and the prevention of youth vaping. Striking the right balance requires thorough research, strict regulation, and comprehensive public health efforts to minimize risks and maximize benefits. 🚬 #tobacco #governmentintervention

Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of preventable illness and death globally, claiming over 8 million lives each year, including 1.2 million from second-hand smoke exposure. It also has severe economic and environmental impacts, such as soil depletion, deforestation, and extensive pesticide use. ■ Health Risks of Tobacco Use: 1. Cancer: Causes lung, mouth, throat, pancreas, bladder, cervix, and kidney cancers. 2. Cardiovascular Diseases: Increases risk of heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. 3. Respiratory Diseases: Leads to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis. 4. Reproductive Health Issues: Causes complications in pregnancy, like low birth weight and preterm delivery. ■ Solutions and Strategies: 1. Tobacco Control Policies: - Taxes and Pricing: Higher taxes on tobacco products discourage use. - Advertising Bans: Restricting tobacco advertising reduces its influence. - Smoke-Free Environments: Laws banning smoking in public places protect non-smokers. 2. Public Education: - Health Warnings: Graphic warnings on packaging deter smoking. - Media Campaigns: Highlight dangers of tobacco use and benefits of quitting. 3. Support for Quitting: - Cessation Services: Access to quitlines and counseling. - Nicotine Replacement Therapy: Helps manage withdrawal symptoms. 4. Youth Engagement: - School Programs: Educate young people about tobacco risks. World No Tobacco Day is a reminder of the ongoing battle against tobacco. By implementing robust policies, raising awareness, and providing support for cessation, we can reduce the global burden of tobacco and promote healthier communities. #worldnotabccoday #health #cancer #youthengagement #publiceducation

Today, we unite with the global healthcare community to mark #WorldNoTobaccoDay, led by the World Health Organization (WHO). This annual campaign sheds light on the global tobacco epidemic to emphasize the avoidable toll it takes on people and societies worldwide. It goes without saying that eradicating tobacco is vital, but we recognize it’s not the end of the journey. So, this year, we're taking a bold stride forward by advocating for not only a world free from tobacco, but from nicotine, too. I am personally extremely proud of the incredible work our @Kenvue teams in EMEA and across the world are doing to helping smokers and vapers achieve a total quit. Our mission extends beyond commitment; it's a call to action for collective change. We are proud to have over 50 years of innovation in nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and in helping smokers quit for good. Nicorette® is currently available in 65 countries around the world and we are constantly looking towards expanding our global footprint to support smokers around the world with access to our products. That’s why, this World No Tobacco Day, we invite individuals, partners, and allies to stand with us as we call for more support to help smokers and vapers quit for good. By working together, we believe everybody can achieve a total quit from tobacco and nicotine. #WNTD #HealthyLivesMission #WeAreKenvue #WeAreKenvue

May 31st - World No Tobacco Day 🚫. Tobacco kills over 6 MILLION people EVERY YEAR💀 The World Health Organization (WHO) established World No Tobacco Day back in 1987 to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco and how the industry targets our youth. In the 16th century tobacco was actively promoted as a medicine. 😲 At that time, smoking became not only fashionable but also 'useful', with pamphlets promoting it as a cure for headaches, toothaches, colic and hysteria. Even doctors began to prescribe tobacco. It would be almost a century before its 'harmful' properties were discovered. Today, most countries have seen a disturbing trend of young people using tobacco and nicotine products. 🤯 According to recent polls, children aged 13-15 are regular users of these products! We need to stand together and ensure that tobacco consumption continues to decline so that future generations can stay safe. 🔥 #NoTobaccoDay #HealthyLiving #SafeguardingFutureGenerations
