#Uzbekistan: The protests against changes to the Uzbek constitution, which took place two years ago in the autonomous region Karakalpakstan and were violently repressed by the central government, remain such a taboo topic that journalists who recall the facts today are arrested, imprisoned and falsely accused of separatism. We condemn this censorship, which threatens to turn the region into an information desert. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e-sCaa8V

⚡️Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan states that #Armenia will not respond militarily to #Azerbaijan's attacks in #NagornoKarabakh [full statement below⬇️]. This prompts large-scale protests in the capital of #Yerevan. The protests against Pashinyan's decision not to retaliate militarily is an example of "audience costs," meaning negative domestic reactions to decisionmaking. Protests of up to several hundred people are highly likely on the day and in the weeks after the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini. She died in police custody on 16 September, 2022, having been arrested for ‘inappropriate attire’. Our map, which plots the number and location of protests across Iran following her death, comes from a wider assessment into the likelihood of protest in Iran around 16 September. Reports such as these are available to subscribers of our Security Intelligence and Analysis Service (SIAS). Pro-Palestinian marchers chanting “jihad” at today's protests should be arrested, the government’s independent adviser on political violence and disruption has said. As reported in The Times, police sources anticipate that recent UK involvement in the military action in Yemen will add to the crowds expected at the protest in London, and that about 1,700 officers will be on the streets, some brought in from outside Scotland Yard. The marches are part of a global “day of action” on the 99th day of war to demand that Israel ends its attacks on Gaza and will feature speeches from Jeremy Corbyn, the former Labour leader, and Mary Lou McDonald, the Sinn Féin president. The situation in Iran remains tense after the significant protests that took place in September 2022 following the tragic death of Mahsa 'Jina' Amini. While the large demonstrations have subsided, there's still a sense of unease as women openly challenge dress-code laws and regulations, creating tension in the country. The government's promises of social and governance reforms in response to the protests have yet to materialize, and this, combined with ongoing economic struggles, adds to the prevailing sense of instability. The protests led to a strong crackdown by the authorities, resulting in numerous arrests and casualties. The Iranian Police Special Units have issued stern warnings to prevent further demonstrations, indicating a heightened level of alertness. In response to the defiance of dress codes, the government has issued orders for police and courts to treat violations as crimes. However, many women continue to challenge these restrictions by removing their headscarves in public, risking fines or even imprisonment. Despite the absence of large-scale protests, the lingering tension and the lack of tangible changes from the government contribute to the current atmosphere of uncertainty and volatility in Iran.
The death of Mahsa Amini triggered the outbreak in Iran of some of the largest and most widespread anti-government protests in decades. Where does this leave the fate of the Islamic Republic? https://lnkd.in/eqhfQjzV

In a tumultuous session marked by protests and disruptions, Ayaz Sadiq of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA). Sadiq's election comes amidst a highly charged political atmosphere, with opposition parties accusing the government of attempting to manipulate the proceedings. The session, which began with heated exchanges between government and opposition members, saw several disruptions as opposition lawmakers voiced their concerns over what they called "unfair tactics" by the government. Despite the chaos, Ayaz Sadiq managed to secure a majority of votes, with support from both the PML-N and other opposition parties. Sadiq's election as NA Speaker is significant, as it marks a rare victory for the opposition in the current political landscape. His tenure is expected to be marked by a focus on holding the government accountable and ensuring transparency in parliamentary proceedings. #AyazSadiq #NAspeaker #PMLN #Protest #PakistanPolitics #pakstartup #startuppakistan

After thorough analysis I realised that there are two basic and fundamental structural defects in the constitution of UN which are 1. Veto Power System for the permanent members of the security council of UN. Since there is a body of all stakeholders in the form of General Assembly wherein all member- countries of the UN are represented there is absolutely no need of Security Council to accept or reject the resolutions passed by General Assembly. As such Security Council should be dissolved forthwith. 2. All member countries of UN are not signatory to the Rome statute consequently some countries are not under the International Criminal Court (ICC) whereas all the member countries have to be under the jurisdiction of ICC so that peace prevails in the world. . Due to these defects America has made a mockery of the UN as it is reduced to a puppet in the hands of the America. Consequently America with some allies have invaded several Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and looted these countries then leaving these countries after the loot is complete. Presently America with the help of Israel (both countries are not under the jurisdiction of ICC) is demolishing, doing cold blooded mass murders, devastation, destruction , displacement, ethenic cleansing, murder especially of children and women and genocide and the whole world including the UN have to be mute spectators of all this and nobody has the powers to question them because of these defects in the constitution of UN. More than seven decades have passed by but the above-mentioned defects in the constitution of UN were not rectified. Non-rectification of these defects has created a very grave situation as instead of peace maintaining organisation UN became a weapon of blackmailing and means of invading and looting the rich countries by some countries which were having the veto power also besides these countries were not signatory to the Rome statute consequently these countries were not under the jurisdiction of ICC. As the result these countries became law per se and virtually became terrorist countries of the world because they were not answerable to any forum for whatever they do. Now the climax of lawlessness has reached in Palestine where total devastation, destruction, cold blooded mass murders, genocide, ethenic cleansing, kidnapping and rape of innocent and unarmed civilians is being done and the whole world including UN have to be mute spectators because of the basic and fundamental defects in the constitution of UN have not been rectified. This is the highest time these defects are rectified by the General Assembly. Let General Assembly wake up after decades of slumber and rectify the defects as proposed above.
Norwegian activists staged a protest outside the Norwegian Parliament, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine and to stop the ongoing occupation genocide.

The ongoing protest in Akure, Ondo State, is a testament to the growing frustration and anger among Nigerian youth towards the government's heavy-handed tactics and disregard for human rights. The police raid that sparked the protest is just one example of the systemic brutality and harassment that Nigerians face daily. It's time for the government to listen to the people's demands and implement meaningful reforms to address police brutality, corruption, and economic inequality. The continued suppression of peaceful protests will only exacerbate the crisis. #NigeriaGovt #BAT #Akure #OndoState #EndPoliceBrutality #AkureProtest #YouthDemandChange #ReformNow https://lnkd.in/dEPxWnW3

Residents in Azad Kashmir continue to face internet disruptions despite a return to normalcy following recent protests. The suspension, initially implemented in response to demonstrations, has caused significant inconvenience for citizens, impacting communication, business operations, and access to information. Here's a quick recap: 1 - Protests erupted on May 11th, leading to a temporary internet shutdown on May 12th. 2 - Negotiations resulted in a brief service restoration on May 13th. 3 - Following a deadly clash, authorities suspended internet again, citing security concerns. While protests have subsided after funeral prayers for the deceased, internet access remains restricted. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) remains tight-lipped on the issue, with sources pointing towards the Azad Kashmir government and the Ministry of Interior for any updates on restoration. This situation raises concerns about communication rights and information access, especially during times of unrest. We'll continue to monitor developments and share updates. #AzadKashmir #internetblackout #RightToInformation #Pakscoop
