#BURKINAFASO: Atiana Serge Oulon is known as one of the last journalists in Burkina Faso who dares to cover military issues, a highly sensitive subject since the installation of a junta two years ago. The perpetrators not only wanted to frighten journalists conducting investigations, but they probably also wanted to try to identify the director’s sources. These methods are disgraceful. This journalist must be released. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e4UMwQrg

To anyone still supporting Israel's genocide, what would you do if someone stole your house & livelihood, killed some of your family, & left the rest of you with nothing to live in the squalor of a refugee camp? That is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, over 250,000 since then, & MORE EVERY YEAR – simply because they are not Jewish. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes & farms where Israeli cities & towns now stand, which Israel literally stole from them. Most even still have their front door keys. Israeli Sources: 1) https://lnkd.in/geiy3_5s, 2) https://lnkd.in/gBV8ipGy, 3) https://lnkd.in/g6726cMj And how can anyone claim that this conflict started on October 7th when between 2000 & Oct 2023, Israeli soldiers & settlers killed nearly 2300 Palestinian children, including 43 children during the 9 months just before Oct 7th (names & details on BTselem.org). Israel has also imposed a brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid on Palestinians, & a brutal blockade of Gaza since 2005. Both are illegal under international law, immoral, & ongoing acts of war. Israeli Sources: 1) https://lnkd.in/gSYf7exV, 2) https://lnkd.in/gvXiS65k, 3) https://lnkd.in/g2rANpCA, 4) https://lnkd.in/gaZSz8PX And when Palestinians have tried to protest peacefully, Israel would shoot them in the knees, kill, or at least imprison & beat them. If you don't believe it, please read this 2020 Haaretz article titled: “42 Knees in One Day: Israeli Snipers Open Up About Shooting Gaza Protesters”: https://lnkd.in/g4VqQRzs And if you still believe the lie that Israel has offered Palestinians many generous peace deals that they keep rejecting, please read this article: https://lnkd.in/g2_EV6dV And now our government is actually helping Israel commit genocide. According to our own U.S. military, Israel has killed OVER 25,000 WOMEN & CHILDREN in the past 5 months: https://lnkd.in/gtQtw9zc Can you imagine how big a pile of 25,000 dead mothers & children would be? Well our taxes are helping pay for it & it’s getting bigger every day. Israel has also orphaned over 30,000 children, & has demolished the homes of around 1 million children, making them homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking aid to these children, KILLING THEM WITH STARVATION, DEHYDRATION, & DISEASE, in addition to U.S. supplied bombs. Israeli & Jewish-American sources: 1) https://lnkd.in/gSZVTaDY, 2) https://lnkd.in/gYpkU3ah, 3) https://lnkd.in/gErBF5hY, 4) https://lnkd.in/gavyg7E9, 5) https://lnkd.in/gWscBWrC PLEASE WRITE & CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES & the White House to demand they stop helping Israel kill & starve children, commit war crimes, & maintain its brutal & racist apartheid, with our tax dollars & U.N. veto protection. And here is University of Chicago Prof. John Mearsheimer explaining why our government does whatever Israel wants: m.com/watch?v=syB9THtXd7M
No investigation conducted by the Israeli government or military or an agency thereof would be independent. If Russia investigated allegations of war crimes against Russian forces in Ukraine, all Western governments would dismiss Russia’s investigation as meaningless. For any investigation to be credible, it would have to be conducted by experts unaffiliated with Israel, and those experts would have to be given unimpeded access to Gaza and to the witnesses. Anything less than that would be a sham and pure theatre. #gaza #genocide #FlourMassacre

Martial law can threaten the centralization of power even in countries with decentralized governance systems. In partnership with Andrii Darkovich, we analyzed how the challenges of a full-scale war in Ukraine changed the interaction between the central and local governments. The study focuses on the main changes in legislation, practices of establishing military administrations, challenges in interaction, and recommendations for key actors. The report is based on 43 in-depth interviews conducted with donor organizations, representatives of communities (local self-governments, local military administrations), district military administrations, and regional military administrations in the regions where hostilities occurred or continue to occur. Biden would not do more to lose any support in the Middle East in the US versus China competition, and submit in a golden tray the favor of the public opinion to China or even to Russia. #internationalcompetition #balanceofpower #internationalsecurity #middleeast #theus #theusa #china #eu #russia #risingpower #decliningpower

Wow! This is what complicity looks like: Already on Oct 27, the White House knew that "Israel was regularly bombing buildings without solid intelligence that they were legitimate military targets." YET, Biden continued to send Israel record amounts of weapons - twice sidestepping Congress - while publicly questioning the Palestinian death toll. It took until Dec 12 when Biden - at a private fundraiser - admitted that Israel's bombings were indiscriminate. wapo.st/3PmXi7e

NBC News Article Review South Africa has announced it will arrest citizens serving in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), marking a controversial stance that questions the legality, morality, and strategic implications of such service amid the Israel-Hamas war. This unprecedented move raises concerns about the effects on IDF readiness and whether it will deter potential foreign-born recruits. The decision highlights South Africa's criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza, comparing them to apartheid and citing allegations of war crimes. While no other countries have committed to a similar approach, there are campaigns in France and discussions in other nations about the legality and ethics of their citizens serving in the IDF. The situation underscores the complex issues surrounding dual citizenship, mandatory military service in Israel, and international perspectives on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

My latest article on the Niger crisis has been published by Georgetown Public Policy Review. The Republic of Niger is grappling with yet another military coup. https://lnkd.in/g6ixdqgh The key players in the unfolding drama include not just domestic military forces, but also the not-so-invisible influence of international powers. A legacy of French colonialism and the United States’ global war on terror looms large over the region. The military coup in Niger has highlighted the urgent need for a shift in the international community’s approach toward the country. Military interventions and the war on terror’s security paradigm have failed to bring lasting peace and stability to Niger. Instead, a diplomatic and humanitarian approach is necessary to address the root causes of instability and promote democratic governance. https://lnkd.in/gZy7GA7g
