Last week, I spoke with the VP Product of a company of several hundred people, who wants to send two of his directors to the CPO Bootcamp. We talked a bit (I talk personally to everyone who wants to participate in the program) and pretty quickly he shared with me that he was skeptical. He is a very experienced product leader, with decades of experience in the industry, and he has already seen quite a few courses that boasted that they teach strategy at the highest level, but was disappointed time and again. The truth is that I was happy about this conversation, because I don't believe in courses. When I built the CPO Bootcamp I thought about what I would personally like. What would really help me, as VP Product, to grow professionally, and would also be worth the time I would devote to it during my busy day. I first thought about what was needed, and only then did I deal with the constraints that reality dictated. It was clear to me that it should include strategic work on each participant's product, with close guidance and feedback because just writing without knowing if you did it right doesn't help. It was clear to me that this should include work on soft skills because if you continue to do what you have always done you will achieve the same results. It was clear to me that this should include open coaching sessions, where you can bring up any topic you're dealing with, because that's what will ultimately occupy you whether I tend to it or not. And that's how the wonderful program called CPO Bootcamp was created. It is a unique program that cannot be found anywhere else. 200 graduates can testify to that. Companies that continue to send more and more people can testify to that. Our mentors can testify to the difference it makes in the participants’ professional lives, and what a great privilege it is to participate in the growth of other people. Participating in today's OKR (Objectives and Key Results) training was a transformative experience for me. It shed light on how pivotal OKRs are in propelling us towards our goals more rapidly. We explored what OKRs truly mean, stressing the significance of establishing lofty, yet achievable objectives paired with quantifiable key results. The training highlighted OKRs' essential role in synchronizing our endeavors and enhancing openness. We examined typical challenges such as the absence of a baseline point, an exclusive emphasis on outputs (activities/workload) VS outcome (impact and value) and the oversight of quantifiable outcomes.
