🍂 November is National Home Care & Palliative Care Month🧡 💡Fun Fact: Regency is just one of approximately 12,000 home care agencies that exist in the United States! We’d like to acknowledge that we stand in solidarity with organizations like NHPCO and NAHC in support and praise of administrators, clinicians, social workers, nurses, doctors, PCAs, physical, occupational, & respiratory therapists, along with so many more. We honor all those (including our employees!) who provide care day in and day out to some of the most vulnerable patients and who make it possible for them to receive that important care in their very own homes. No job in health care is easy, but fulfilling these roles for this specific type of care requires a unique skillset to endure the emotional and physical demands that can come along with it. Although we appreciate them year-round, we are proud to recognize this month as a time to spread awareness and celebrate these special health care workers while highlighting the impactful and meaningful work they do. Relevant organizations mentioned above: ◼ National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) – please visit nhpco.org for more information. ◼ National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) – please visit nahc.org for more information.

Compassionate communities, as a practice method, is found in Ambition 6 of the Palliative and End of Life Ambitions Framework if communities are prepared to help. The Care Quality Commission now seeks evidence from hospices about what they are doing to achieve this ambition. This has created a lot of interest in work streams that involve communities. We at Compassionate Communities UK have found in our training sessions that considerable confusion exists about how to approach engagement and development in compassionate community projects. There is a tendency to think about compassionate communities as something on its own rather than something that can be integrated into the routine ’business’ of hospices, enhancing the day to day clinical care and seeing it as a natural part of conversations of any sort with communities members. There is also a tendency to approach compassionate communities as another service that the hospice provides for the community, doing something ’to’ communities rather than discovering the rich resources and treasures that are already out there. To try and help develop existing programmes, and to stimulate interest in new ways of working, we are putting on this session. We will explore discovering community treasures, realigning services in the context of community and how to start community conversations from a public health palliative care perspective.

This event is not just a gathering of healthcare professionals, but a gathering of hearts and minds dedicated to enhancing the support and compassion we provide to our community members during their most vulnerable times. ❤️ Palliative care is not just a medical practice, but a mission to alleviate suffering and bring comfort to those facing life-limiting illnesses and supporting people to live well until they die. It is time to break down these barriers and ensure that every individual receives the care and dignity they deserve in their final moments. Does anyone know about waterwalls? This is a tranquil feature we would like to add to our new visiting and atrium space at Rocmaura Nursing Home as part of our Palliative Suite Project. Rocmaura Foundation has been working on this major project for several months, to bring families and our 150 residents a serene and comfortable space to spend time together as we fulfill our mission to help to give our frail and aging an enhanced quality of life in our home. We often don’t talk about palliative care in nursing homes, but it is an important part of long term care. Health Canada says there are many misconceptions about end of life care: Myth: Palliative care is only for the last days or weeks of life. Fact: A palliative approach to care can begin much earlier than you may think. Palliative care is holistic care, offered in any setting, for people of any age, living with serious illness that involves a range of care providers. Palliative care focuses on quality of life and supports for people living with serious illness and those closest to them. The Canadian Medical Association says “all Canadian residents should have access to comprehensive, quality palliative care services regardless of age, care setting, diagnosis, ethnicity, language and financial status.” The goal of palliative care is to provide comfort and support to patients and their families. Picture cozying up to a warm fireplace and the tranquil serenity of time spent next to a trickling waterfall with those who care about you. That is how I would want it to feel. Press to play this short video. Turn your sound speaker on. It’s relaxing! #RNH #CommunityOfCaringPeople #homeawayfromhome Please share this post, and reach out to me to help make this vision happen. We want to hear from you if you have used palliative care services for adults (24+), either for yourself or a loved one, in the last five years. We want to know what services work well, and what could be improved, so we can inform new nationally consistent models of adult palliative and end-of-life care services. Our short survey is confidential, anonymous, and open to anyone in New Zealand: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gPcZNhPm Your feedback will inform how the redesign of how adult palliative care services and systems work together in Aotearoa New Zealand to better meet the palliative and end-of-life care needs of patients, whānau and communities. Palliative care includes the services provided by GPs, community services, aged residential care facilities, hospitals, or hospices. The survey is also open to those with work experience with these services. This survey is part of our National Palliative Care Work Programme: https://lnkd.in/gj_6ngZh Image description: Photo of holding hands. Our daily posts are curated to bring you the most relevant and impactful medical news from around BC and beyond. 🔹 Today's Highlight: Palliative care doctor speaks out about province's MAID changes for St. Paul's Hospital The BC government’s workaround to allow medical assistance in dying (MAID) at St. Paul’s Hospital will not prevent the continuing forced transfers of end-of-life patients at other religious-run hospitals and hospices, says a Vancouver palliative-care doctor. “I’m actually shocked,” said Jyothi Jayaraman, who quit her job at a Vancouver hospice, May’s Place, because it stopped providing MAID once it was taken over by Providence Health. “I thought, ‘Is this the outcome?’ There is no concession. No acknowledgment of patient suffering.” 🔎 Why Stay Updated? In the rapidly evolving field of healthcare, staying informed is crucial. Whether it's groundbreaking research, policy changes, local health events, or wellness tips, these updates are designed to enhance your understanding and keep you at the forefront of medical knowledge. 👩⚕️ Our Commitment to Community Health: At Terra Nova Medical Clinics, we believe in empowering our community with information.
