How do you build a Solar PV Installation Team from scratch? This year I have successfully helped a growing renewable energy business do just that. It was a new venture for this client who had experience installing other renewable products. Despite this they wanted to get it right from the outset, here are some of the things I did to help this process: 🌞 Market research to establish how benchmarked competitors structured their teams. 🌞 Salary & Benefits Survey for management and installation teams. 🌞 Assessment of the existing team to understand who had relevant experience to assist in the new Solar PV division. 🌞 Conducted a search for the right management people to build the division. 🌞 Search for key engineering and installation leaders. 🌞 Search for potential sub-contractors. 🌞 Building an internal recruitment process for sourcing Solar PV Electricians and Roofers. 🌱 The Growing Demand for Skills in the Renewable Energy Sector The renewable energy sector in Germany, specifically within the solar and wind industries, is experiencing a significant surge in job opportunities. In 2022 alone, there were 52,000 job listings for the solar industry, more than double compared to 2019. The first half of this year indicates a further increase, with 36,000 job advertisements already posted. The most sought-after professionals in the solar industry include experts in sanitary, heating and air conditioning, electrical construction, and project management. Remarkably, nearly a quarter of all job listings for roofers now come from solar companies, a sharp rise from just about 10% in 2019. As for wind energy, while the increase in job listings is less dramatic, the demand for technicians has nearly doubled in the past four years. The need for project managers and electrical construction workers is also on the rise. Overall, the renewable energy sector in Germany employs about 130,000 people in wind and 58,500 in solar. These numbers reflect the urgent need for more investment in training and education to meet the growing demands of the energy transition.
