Addiction doesn't recognize boundaries of race, culture, gender or socio-economic status, yet the stigma of substance abuse and addiction is one of the major barriers standing in the way of people seeking and getting the help they need. That's why we are so grateful to have former clients such as Ericka, our 2023 End of Year Appeal spokesperson, who are willing to share their stories, and put a name and a face on this disease. We hope Ericka's story will encourage you to support Turning Point, and help us continue saving lives. https://lnkd.in/efNRJM2t https://lnkd.in/eZSAYCxY

#DrBobPrescribes: We began our examination of Tristan und Isolde in last week’s Dr. Bob Prescribes post. Our prescribed performance – as featured above – will continue to supply our video examples as we move through Acts II and III. As mentioned in last week’s post, our examination of Tristan und Isolde is focusing on Isolde, and three particular episodes - one from each of the three acts - that demonstrate her ongoing metamorphosis across the span of the drama: from viciously angry and depressed in Act I, to agitated and love struck in Act II, to transfigured in Act III.… https://lnkd.in/gfi5qMME

5⭐️ episode outlining the tremendous opportunity to invest in public health and health care services with the #OpioidSettlementFund. Preventing opioid prescriptions is an essential piece to this ongoing crisis’ prevention and treatment strategies. https://lnkd.in/gxxyzWfw
Amazing to see Last Week Tonight with John Oliver feature the opioid settlements in its most recent episode — including several of the articles I've written for KFF Health News, the groundbreaking work of Christine Minhee, J.D., and efforts by many other reporters/researchers! (The episode is only on HBO Max right now, but will be on YouTube this Thurs!)

There are so many factors here. From the sense of urgency purported by those responsible for abatement, to the sheer magnitude of settlement funds being dispersed among RSS which already self-sustain. We need congruency. Capacity expansion makes sense but are we asking for quality projections associated with a project? Expediency is necessary. Innovation is necessary. --but if we're accumulating wealth and not even attempting to see through the blurry of macroeconomics and social movement there is limited chance that resources are being developed equitably.

A friend told me that I had to watch this (although 2022) video👇 and I could not keep it dry. I would recommend everyone to watch it. It is an incredible powerful story which you would not expect in Australia’s Got Talent. Sharing his story however in AGT surely had/has the potential to help someone else feel less alone, that there are alternatives, that no one should feel ashamed … Many of us, including myself, have struggled with terrible thoughts at least at some point in our lives. Not only on September 10, the World Suicide Prevention Day, we should be reminded to reduce the stigma associated with suicides, and simultaneously, promote a culture where people shouldn’t hesitate to seek help. It is estimated that there are currently more than 700 000 suicides per year worldwide, and each suicide profoundly affects many more people. (Source: World Health Organization) By creating hope through action, we can signal to people experiencing suicidal thoughts that there is hope and that we care and want to support them. It also suggests that our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling. “Creating hope through action” is WHO’s 2023 WSPD theme.

How do we decide to do something we know we need to do? How do we decide to get sober? Sobriety is not about knowledge, it is about action, and until we make that commitment we are going to struggle. In this episode Aparna Sain and I explore this topic and discuss the difference between making a decision and making a commitment. These concepts may seem simple, but they are the keys that unlock the mysteries of recovery. www.aparnasain.com This episode is sponsored by Retreat Behavioral Health.
