“Tackling the issue of homelessness and housing insecurity in Baltimore is going to require approaches that reflect the needs and experiences of our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “This purchase is a major step forward in increasing our ability to address homelessness, expand our efforts to provide a pathway to housing security, and utilize ARPA funding to make a major impact on our most complex challenges. I cannot thank everyone who has been part of this process enough for their hard work, dedication, and deep love for all Baltimoreans. Together, from the Biden-Harris Administration and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to our state partners and down to our local leaders and advocates, we will continue fighting to make a difference in the lives of residents who need it most.” "Today is a pivotal moment in our ongoing efforts to address homelessness with compassion, dignity, and effectiveness, marking a significant investment in permanent, long-term housing solutions for Baltimore's unhoused population," said Chief Recovery Officer Shamiah Kerney. "This housing initiative is not just about providing a roof over someone's head. Together, we are dedicated to creating a comprehensive support system that includes wrap-around services designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.” City of Baltimore Cuts Ribbon on Newly-Acquired Hotels Slated to Help Efforts to Address Homelessness Mayor Brandon M. "All of our residents deserve access to safe and affordable housing, and we are committed to making that a reality. This project represents a significant step forward in our efforts to revitalize our neighborhoods, provide essential resources, and create a vibrant community for everyone." -Mayor Brandon M. Scott Yesterday, Mayor Scott attended a groundbreaking for Greenmount Park Apartments and the Johnston Square Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library & Maryland State Library Resource Center. The Greenmount Park Apartments project receives $375,000 in funding from ARPA through the Recovery Office. All ARPA funding will specifically go towards building the Greenmount Park Apartments. The Greenmount Park Apartments, spearheaded by a partnership of ReBUILD Metro, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Somerset Development, New Community Partners LLC, and Rebuild Johnston Square Neighborhood Organization, will introduce 109 mixed-income affordable apartments alongside a state-of-the-art Enoch Pratt Free Library branch. The development will be complemented by a new 4-acre park and playing field to foster community engagement and unite residents from Johnston Square and beyond. The building will include a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for residents earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income, providing a range of high-quality, affordable housing options to people of different income levels and household sizes. Thank you to our ARPA partners Baltimore City Department of Housing & Community Development, Enoch Pratt Free Library, ReBUILD Metro, and everyone involved in building a brighter future for East Baltimore.
