“For patients who live far from a hospital or who have mobility challenges, it often isn’t a choice between virtual or in-person cardiac rehab, it’s a choice between virtual rehab or nothing,”- Recora co-founder and Chief Medical Officer Ed Wu, MD. On behalf of patients across the country, we are grateful for the leadership of Senators Sinema, Blackburn, and Klobuchar, who introduced legislation recently that would restore and preserve access to virtual cardiac rehabilitation. It’s essential that Congress takes action now to ensure this critical program is available to the hundreds of thousands of Medicare beneficiaries who need it. Nice to see Senators look at evidence-based research. Researchers found that hybrid and virtual care methods provided similar clinical benefits to patients as in-person care, with blood pressure control, walking ability, and anxiety levels being similar between the hybrid and virtual care groups and the in-person group. Further, research shows that home-based cardiac rehab was more effective than center-based cardiac rehab services, lowering hospitalization rates even among medically complex patients. #healthtech #healthcare #caruralhealth #ruralhealth #digitalhealth #telehealth #healthequity .https://bit.ly/3LRSvZU

Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Endocrinology Healthcare. Community development with emphasis in the physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial aspects of individuals and families.
This Senate campaign bill to H.R. 1406 can and will help in the continual effort to gain access for those eligible for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Only around 25% of Medicare patients that are eligible for Cardiac Rehabilitation actual participate. Having a permanent solution to allow virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation can provide avenues to increase the participation and adherence rates across the United States. #cardiacrehabilitation #pulmonaryrehabilitation #Advocacy #AACVPR
Senators Sinema, Blackburn, and Klobuchar have just introduced key legislation (S. 3021) to restore telehealth access to individuals recovering from cardiac and pulmonary conditions. It's been a pleasure to work with their offices on this bill to address a care gap where only 1 in 4 participate in cardiac rehab - a proven modality to reduce rehospitalizations and increase life expectancy. Virtual cardiac rehab has also been shown as an effective modality to address disparities among women, minorities, rural areas, and those with more comorbid conditions. Thanks to the American Heart Association, American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), American College of Chest Physicians, and many other organizations/health systems for supporting these efforts. S. 3021 builds upon H.R. 1406 led by Rep. John Joyce and Rep. Scott Peters. Topsy turvy times in D.C., but so thankful to these offices for leading progress in heart health! #cardiacrehab #hearthealth #preventivemedicine #virtualcare #healthcarecosts #ruralhealthcare https://lnkd.in/efk6Y7Bj

We’ve summarized some key points below: - Capacity and access constraints in the healthcare system continue to hinder efforts to increase CR enrollment. - Virtual CR has emerged as an alternative, supported by recent studies, but its future reimbursement remains uncertain. - Some members of Congress have introduced bills, HR1406 and HR955/S1849, to address these challenges and improve capacity and access. - HR1406 aims to permanently extend Medicare reimbursement for virtual CR. - HR955/S1849 seeks to improve reimbursement for hospital services, including CR, in off-campus hospital outpatient departments. - Enacting HR1406 and HR955/S1849 is a crucial first step in addressing CR-related challenges and expanding capacity. These bills also have support in the Senate, indicating a bipartisan effort to address challenges and expand CR capacity and access. Here is a "breaking news" from the American Thoracic Society... Spoiler, this is news that ANY respiratory therapist could tell you. "PULMONARY REHABILITATION WORKS" What doesn't work are silly rules that restrict PR activities, under-utilized and under-prescribed by MDs, reimbursement for the program doesn't allow for a facility to effectively operate a program, and it's getting harder to find trained personnel (respiratory therapists) to delivery quality pulmonary rehab, and there are not enough sites to enroll into a pulmonary rehab program. Don't forget the socioeconomic disparities which puts stress on every preceding component. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Pulmonary Rehab is getting attention by the ATS but let's not stop there. We have to get the reimbursement right so that it is available for all patients who need it. I know thousands of RTs understand their role in providing patients with Pulmonary Rehab but the environment to do so has been obscured for so many years that there is no business sense for actually doing it. It's time for Pulmonary Patients to get the care they deserve. #telerespiratory #rtNOW #pulmonaryrehabilitation #respiratorytherapist https://lnkd.in/gceYqfQB
