It's a testament to the trust placed in our organization Hazelwood Initiative, Inc. and a recognition of our ability to make a meaningful impact in our community. Sonya Tilghman and the staff's unwavering commitment, hard work and delivery have played a pivotal role in positioning us, now as a nationally recognized trusted entity in community development deserving trust and support. This grant gives us the freedom to innovate and make financial decisions based on what's best for our community and organization, without restrictions. We're thrilled to have the opportunity to fund our projects, support our staff, and meet our community's needs in a way that aligns with our vision. Louis Wolfson, III, co-founding partner of Pinnacle, was recently featured by Miami Today Newspaper in the "The Achiever" section. In the article, Louis discusses his work of blending affordable, workforce, and market-rate housing with artistic design, as well as the Wolfson Family's philanthropy, which has donated over $200 million to initiatives in and around Miami over a century. “For the whole family, art, education, and most importantly passing it on to the next generations is a legacy,” Louis told Miami Today. “We don’t want to lose it, we’re going to continue it, and that thinking separates us from most others. Most people are short-term thinkers. We’re trying to think in 50-year periods, Pinnacle included.” In conversation with reporter Monica Correa, he explored his holistic and forward-thinking approach linking real estate, innovation and lasting social change fueled by philanthropy. As an organization we create a Diversity Calendar each year in accordance with a selected theme. This year’s theme focuses on highlighting nonprofits in the area that align with our Triple Bottom Line— People, Planet, and Profit. In March, we have chosen to highlight ICCF Community Homes. Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF) Community Homes is the oldest nonprofit affordable housing provider in Michigan. They’ve been active in the Grand Rapids area since 1974 and engage 2,000+ households each year with housing-related services. They manage over 600 units of affordable rental housing and provide homeownership education and home purchase opportunities to hundreds of neighbors. All people deserve safe, affordable housing. ICCF Community Homes seeks housing justice in West Michigan for a more equitable and thriving community. VISION: Vibrant communities in West Michigan with connected neighbors, housing justice, and abundant opportunity. MISSION: Equitable opportunity, affordable homes, and thriving neighborhoods. VALUES: Respect, treating all people with dignity; Opportunity, empowering our neighbors to use their innate gifts; Beauty, constructing sustainable, beautiful homes. HISTORY: ICCF began with a single donation of a home to a church in 1974. A group of volunteers decided to renovate the house and sell it to a low-income family. Decades later, the scope of their work has increased significantly, but the heart remains the same. ICCF believes that all people deserve safe, affordable housing—and that stable housing is essential to foster a thriving community.
