The Asset Owner Diversity Charter brought together asset owners and consultants to agree a consistent set of diversity metrics for collection across fund managers. Driving standardisation reduces the burden multiple frameworks place on companies whilst providing the necessary transparency for fund allocators to understand the diversity of the investment teams they appoint. Helen Price, Co-Chair Asset Owner Charter, Director, Governance Church of England Pensions Board, argues there is definitely a good middle ground. A worthwhile listen here - Jeremy McKeown talking to Alasdair Haynes of Aquis Exchange. 'We need to make equities sexy again'. I couldn't agree more. The London equity market is a strategically important asset for the UK and we need to believe in it a little more. Talking ourselves down is not helpful over the long term. Many private individuals of today don't have the safety net of final salary pensions, so arguably need to 'grow their way' into a good retirement. Can the UK equity market be the place to do that? It'll be a fascinating journey to watch 👍 https://lnkd.in/eMVdSVx8 Personal views only. Not investment advice

Shifting my focus from private equity to building a company from 0 to 1 has been a journey. One of the most interesting parts has been SMB's sentiment to private equity. Generally, it is categorized as slash-and-burn and value destructive. The outside / in perspective is hugely negative. Clearly, the negative headlines outweigh the positive returns that the industry has generated, which ultimately contribute to the pensions and retirement funds globally. There is a lot that is misunderstood, but one thing is clear: private equity must do a better job building a more transparent model. This transparency is important for all components of the business: its investor base, customers, employees, portcos, etc. This post was inspired by an Financial Times post by Sarah Murray in October 2023.
