Shifting my focus from private equity to building a company from 0 to 1 has been a journey. One of the most interesting parts has been SMB's sentiment to private equity. Generally, it is categorized as slash-and-burn and value destructive. The outside / in perspective is hugely negative. Clearly, the negative headlines outweigh the positive returns that the industry has generated, which ultimately contribute to the pensions and retirement funds globally. There is a lot that is misunderstood, but one thing is clear: private equity must do a better job building a more transparent model.
