This week on Beautifully Complex, I’m tackling the parent complaint: “My kid doesn’t listen.” The first step is to determine if they’re not listening, or if they’re just not showing it in the ways you expect. Next, we identify what’s getting in their way. Imagine trying to talk to a friend at a crowded party with loud music. 🪩🎉 Your friend may be listening to you, but their attention is divided by the noise and activity. Similarly, when communicating with our neurodivergent kids, they may intend to listen, but it's like trying to have a conversation in a loud and chaotic environment. By understanding their unique ways of listening and providing clear, doable instructions, we can communicate effectively, much like finding a quieter corner at the party to have a meaningful conversation. Here are 3 strategies provided in the episode: 1. Gain Their Attention 2. Write Down Instructions 3. Wait for Regulation Listen to learn all this and more at https://lnkd.in/ghuVQ7fM or wherever you get your podcasts.

Chief Executive at Police Credit Union. Experienced executive leader with a passion for growing the impact organisations have on their people, customers, and communities.
Podcasts are a great way to keep the mind off the treadmill aches and pains, and lately I’ve listened to a few on the topic of ‘strategy’, including the one below (when not listening to the Funk Metal essentials playlist on Apple Music anyway 😎). Having learned some lessons on creating and implementing strategy (some the easy way and some the hard way), here’s a few reflections that might make the difference between your strategy being useful rather than interesting wallpaper. It isn’t really a good strategy unless: 1. It solves a real problem, or takes advantage of a real opportunity, to help your business meaningfully move ahead. 2. It can be used to make choices - of what to do AND what not to do. 3. It provides the clarity needed to prioritise the one or two most important things to invest in next. 4. It turns into activity that is resourced, funded and executed. And it definitely wasn’t a strategy that had full buy in unless you got to Number 4!

The quality of attention matters. When your audience is deeply engaged, they're more likely to absorb your message and act on it. This makes business and technology podcasts an incredibly powerful platform for brands seeking to make a meaningful impact. These shows garner a different kind of attention – a superior quality of engagement. Listeners tuning into technical podcasts give 90% or better of their focus. This is in contrast to genres like true crime or entertainment shows, which might only capture about 10% of their listeners' attention. For B2b, the quality of attention matters. gowildcast.com
