Risk- How to stop wildfire and keep the systems safe.
Reliability- How do they make the lights stay on in a world that demands power 24/7. Add the stress as reliability becomes essential as heating and transportation shift to electric. Texas Ice storms and freezing Tesla's were two items that came to mind.
Capacity- As the west and other segments of the county electrify how is capacity prioritized shifted from resolving one bottle neck at a time to many at once. How will massive amounts of re-conductoring be completed while not interfering with repetitive outages. (Underground?)
Affordability- perhaps the largest challenge, with so much infrastructure to be built and re-built the cost will continue to grow. Will our children's monthly spend on electricity exceed all other costs?
Timeliness- Can the infrastructure be designed, permitted and constructed before existing infrastructure is overwhelmed or fails?
If leading in this industry was a tough the last 10 years, we need a new definition of tough for the next 10 years. Uniting creative minds, problem solvers and the use of AI will be certain.

Our T&D Engineer of the Future panel at Public Utilities Fortnightly’s Edison Congress in DC featured PHI, PG&E, Georgia Power, National Grid and BG&E future leaders that have 20-30 years of career ahead. These men and women will be responsible for delivering on the policy goals made by their current leadership.
