It's staggering to say this in 2024, but women-owned businesses like Atrium are still in the minority. When we opened our doors nearly thirty years ago, I knew our approach to workforce management and talent solutions was unique. What I didn’t realize was how rare companies like ours would be three decades later: 🔸According to the Women Business Collaborative, women make up 66% of the workforce at staffing firms, but only half of executive positions and just 33% of board seats 🔸Outside of the staffing world, women make up 50.7% of the college-educated workforce in the U.S., but only 10.6% are CEOs of the Fortune 500 So the fact that Atrium has been included on Staffing Industry Analysts' annual list of Diversity-Owned Staffing Firms again for 2024 matters: https://bit.ly/4ch6OSX We hold a special place in this industry and I hope through our example, the next generation of female leaders will rise to join us. #Atrium #WBENC #WomenOwned

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the impact of role models: the big and small moments they create that stick with us for years and help shape who we become. My first role model was my dad. When I was little, I loved nothing more than going into the office with him. I'd crawl under his desk and listen to him on sales calls—then copy him by making my own fake business calls. He'd laugh whenever he saw me do this and say I clearly had sales in my blood. I'd grin and get back to dialing my next make-believe client on my pretend telephone. Years later, a female CEO took me under her wing. Up until that point, I hadn't met many female leaders (let alone CEOs) and I became a sponge as I watched the way she navigated the working world. There was no task or challenge that she couldn't take on, no glass ceiling that would impede her progress. She opened my eyes and showed me what was possible. And now that I'm in a leadership position myself, I'm deeply aware that I have the opportunity to be a role model for others. Our days at Atrium can be hectic (in a good way!) but whenever I can, I do my best to pause, share advice or words of encouragement with my team, and pass on the gift that others have given me. "How do you know you're making the right decision for your career?" This is a question I’ve been asked more than once by new hires. When you first enter the workforce, it can be challenging to make (often for the first time!) binary career decisions that by their nature open some doors and close others. It's an uncomfortable place to be! I've seen many struggle with indecision and fear over making the wrong choice. The truth is that every career move comes with a level of uncertainty. In my experience, you can make a pros/cons list or seek advice from your mentors — but at the end of the day, you need to trust your own intuition and take a leap of faith. It's no secret in the Atrium office that I have a passion for Early Talent. It stems from my love of investing in people and relationships. I recently polled my network, asking the one thing you can do to have the biggest positive impact on someone’s workday. It wasn’t sharing positive feedback or offering advice and support. Almost half agreed that listening makes all the difference. 👂 Active listening is one of the most important — but incredibly difficult – skills to develop. We can all use a little extra help in this area, considering we remember less than 50% of what we hear.
