One of the more astute and accurate quotes on the cannabis market in a long time. If you do not understand the dynamics of the game you are going to get run over. 🗣️ Quote of the week Two weeks ago I moderated a panel at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Chicago.  Happy Munkey CEO Vlad Bautista, a legend in New York City cannabis circles, had an astute comment on my panel about making the switch from legacy to legit on the panel:  "The majority of the big players were playing monopoly," Bautista said. "They would buy everything they land on, do another round of raising, and buy whatever else they land on. And the only thing they had to produce was projections, and growth." "Investors aren't rewarding that anymore. The game has morphed more into a game of Risk, and investors looking for profitability." “I didn’t come from Wall Street. I don’t know how to operate off of growth and projections. I only know how to operate off of profitability, because in my old career, I couldn’t go back to my distributor and say but look, my stock price is going up.”  It’s a really useful piece of advice for surviving and thriving in the difficult cannabis industry.

I was very happy to have been selected by Mark Collins, President of Highly Capitalized, to be the face and guest interviewer at this past weeks Cannabis Business Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. My take-away from the show... the California Cannabis market is in DEEP TROUBLE! But it is not too late, if our illustrious Governor Newsome get off his ass and starts instituting some major reforms NOW!! Could anyone imagine six years ago that the leaders of the World's fifth largest economy would screw-up the launch of the biggest cannabis market ever seen in the world so badly?! This should stand as one of the greatest business failures from government in history. "Conspiracists" would say this was ALL orchestrated from the onset. Well call me a conspiracist! Meanwhile, other states are using the poor leadership, and failures of the California cannabis market as a roadmap toward success...and guess what, they are succeeding. So not all doom-and-gloom. Though with a breath of fresh air from senate banking approval, instead of dwelling on challenges, the focus appears to be on opportunities. Panel discussions emphasized buying potential in even distressed assets, signaling a shift towards growth / finding a path ahead.
