1974: Indian Institute of Science - Center for Electronic Design Technology- started with support from the DoE, UGC and the Swiss Development Cooperation. The mandates were: (i) To develop design methodologies and tools for the fabrication of electronic equipment, (ii) To train engineers for and foster collaboration with the nascent electronics industry in the country. CEDT started its postgraduate Diploma programme in Electronics Design and Technology in 1975. Swiss funding enabled many of the faculty of CEDT to work in several industries and R and D laboratories of Switzerland, to benefit from several short and long-term Swiss experts, and to ensure smooth functioning of the Centre. CEDT established an excellent contact with the electronic industries after the structural changes that took place in the Indian Industry during the 90s. Golden Jubilee Year. Proud to be an Alumni.

Now it’s the time for closer cooperation and to learn from each other. Packaging has been key for performance of PICs from the very beginning. For ICs, the packaging finally became key for system performance and a product differentiator in the last few years of the slow down of Moore’s Law (at least the part of the economics observation), the SoC disintegration, SiP (System-in-Package) heterogeneous integration and the starting era of chiplets. Time to learn more about. Never stop learning. Continuing education is a MUST, also for those seen as experts with 25+ years experience.

I was at the 2024 ECTI Distinguished Lecture #3 by Prof. C.-C. Jay Kuo at Electrical Engineering Dept., Chulalongkorn University. The lecture was about a new statistically-based Al/ML framework called "Green Learning" which provides better interpretability and sustainability relative to DL models.
