Construction continues on the Cipriani Ocean Resort, Club Residences and Casino in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, the new complex features a faithful recreation of the iconic Tudor-style San Rafael Hotel, which famously launched the beachside community into the destination it is today, as well as three residential towers – ranging from 30 to 60 stories tall – a conference center, two restaurants, a spa, beach club, outdoor pool, and many other renowned Cipriani amenities and services. On a national level, hotel rooms under construction have decreased, while the number of hotel rooms in the final planning phase has exploded. However, Seattle is bucking that trend, with hotel rooms under construction up 57% year-over-year increase in October. The influx of hotels starting construction in Seattle in the past 12 months boosted hotel rooms under construction in the entire Pacific Northwest by 3.2%, despite the other regions experiencing under-construction declines.
