"Bequest giving continues to be a steady revenue stream for charities that encourage these gifts, with giving from bequests outpacing total giving over five and ten years." "Be proactive in the current climate, both with your donors as you market vehicles for philanthropic consideration, and with your governing boards who often need to be reminded that financing this area of advancement is investing in the health and longevity of your organization—even if times become lean." I'm so proud of the work of Charityvest and their launch of their #CommunityFund 💸 feature that enables any group to pool charitable capital with others into a transparent, shared fund that has its own dedicated webpage. 🚀 As we talked about in our 2020 Stanford Social Innovation Review article on "Building a Trust-Based Philanthropy to Shift Power Back to Communities," we need more open technology and data platforms 💻 to democratize decision-making. The mantra of “working openly” is slowly pervading Big Philanthropy as collaboration increases and more information is exchanged. However, the world of open platforms and transparency hasn’t been fully integrated into funder circles in ways that might #democratize and reduce information asymmetry, especially in due diligence, which is usually kept private to individual funders. 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 Small charities face a seemingly endless challenge of sustaining their vital work, and the only way to get off the rollercoaster ride of short-term grants and contracts is to grow those all-important unrestricted funds. Grant Deadline Approaching! March 1, 2024 The Mary Allen Lindsey Branan Foundation makes grants to organizations in the state of Georgia to promote the relief of suffering and other charitable purposes. Organizations must qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applications must be submitted through the online grant application form or alternative accessible application designed for assistive technology users. Applications are accepted year-round but they must be submitted by March 1 to be reviewed at the grant meeting in April. 🔍 In December, the CRA released new guidance that helps clarify how foundations can support "non-qualified donees" (NQDs), which include entities like non-profits and grassroots groups lacking charitable status.
