Elevating homes with impeccable design and unparalleled luxury for over 25 years / Wood-Mode Cabinetry Specialist / Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer / Foodie, Wine Lover, and World Traveler
Scandi Chic - a movement that made the Danish noun "hygge" an American buzzword and part of the English dictionary. It has been a decade-long trend and is still going strong. But is this really a trend? I think of Scandinavian design as timeless. Think of all the ways Scandinavian design has influenced American style over the last hundred years, from Art Deco and Art Nouveau to Midcentury Modern to pop culture graphic art. What do you think? Will Scandinavian design symbolize the 20-teens and 2020's or will it live on as timeless design? #scandinaveandesign #scandichic #WoodModeCabinetry
Before hygge became the Oxford English Dictionaryโs Word of the Year in 2016, Scandinavian culture held an influence on the American home. Key elements of Scandanavian design include clean lines, superior craftsmanship and quality materials. Meanwhile, a welcoming and intimate effect is established with soft textures and color while maintaining modern lines and functionality. 20 years of The Charlotte Perriand Collection by #Cassina When Charlotte Perriand spoke the phrase, "The object is not neutral. It has a relationship with man and this has to be taken into account", she was probably, without realizing it, anticipating what neuroscience would highlight in the years to come: the interaction between mind and object. Undisputed protagonist of the history of design, Charlotte Perriand defined an extremely innovative โart de vivre et dโhabiter", in stark contrast to the traditional design codes of the time. Perriand rightfully belongs to that cultural avant-garde which, starting from the early 20th century, has promoted a profound renewal of the aesthetic values of interior design and has given rise to a truly modern sensitivity for everyday life. Twenty years have passed since Cassina began its collaboration with this talented design pioneer, with the collection that has become part of #iMaestriCollection. Her attention to gesture, to space, to free modularity, to the human being immersed in a context of sensorial and sensual habitability, has made history. The rest is legend. For the 20th anniversary of the Charlotte Perriand Collection, Cassina celebrates this important milestone by paying homage to the work of this versatile designer with an exclusive selection of furnishings never produced in series and new versions of icons already present in the catalogue. Political Scandals and Iconic Chairs: The Legacy of Christine Keeler, Arne Jacobsen, and Adolf Loos In the tumultuous 1960s, a single photograph encapsulated a political scandal and immortalized a timeless piece of furniture. Christine Keeler's provocative pose on a modern plywood chair in 1963 symbolized more than just scandal; it became a cultural icon, thanks to Lewis Morley's lens. The chair she sat on, the Fritz Hansen Series 7 Chair by Arne Jacobsen, had already achieved fame for its elegant design since its creation in 1955. However, the scandal surrounding Keeler and British politician John Profumo elevated the Series 7 Chair to new heights of notoriety. Meanwhile, the Thonet bentwood chairs, pioneered by Michael Thonet in the 1850s, had their own rich history. Thonet's Model 14, known as the 'chair of chairs,' revolutionized furniture design with its innovative bentwood technique. Adolf Loos, a prominent architect and design theorist, played a pivotal role in shaping modern design aesthetics. Loos advocated for simplicity and functionality in design, famously stating that ornamentation was a crime. His endorsement of the Thonet bentwood chair as the epitome of modern living further solidified its status in design history. Contrasting the sleek modernity of the Series 7 with the timeless elegance of the Thonet bentwood chairs, enriched by Loos's endorsement, reveals a fascinating intersection of design, politics, and scandal. Both chairs, though created in different eras, became instruments intertwined with political intrigue and societal scandals. Imagine the Keeler chair, once a symbol of scandal, now hung on the back of a Thonet chair, representing the end of an era of allure in high society. This juxtaposition highlights the enduring legacy of both scandals and chairs, shaping cultural narratives and design history alike. #ProfumoAffair #IconicChairs #Series7Chair #ThonetChair #FurnitureHistory #PoliticalScandals #DesignLegacy #ArneJacobsen #MichaelThonet #AdolfLoos #ScandalousDesign #popcultureicon

A combination of rigour and sinuosity, form and function: Yves is a seating system with a dual soul that reveals itself as an ideal synthesis of rational volumes and organic shapes, enriched by unexpected and dynamic tailored details. A project imbued with an intangible charm that transports us to the heyday of the 1970s. The flowing movements of the one-piece seats create different depths, resulting in cosy configurations: like coves, spaces open up to accommodate a small table or an ottoman, adapting the sofa to the constant evolution of contemporary living. The backrests support the curves of the seats, following their course with their segmented architectural shapes to form a gap, allowing them to be consecutive without appearing monolithic.
