$5,000,000,000 That’s the amount spent annually treating antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. For some perspective, that is same amount that Mattel, makers of a certain doll currently dominating the box office, generates in annual revenue. There are already more than 2.8 million antimicrobial-resistant infections each year in the US, leading to 35,000 deaths and the aforementioned $5 billion in treatment cost. The problem is expected to only get worse without collective action to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. We are taking this issue seriously, aiming to address the quality gap in the management of ear infections. Ear infections are #1 reason why children are prescribed with antibiotics, often as a precaution instead of a necessity. Reducing ear infection mis- or over-diagnosis would be a big step toward mitigating this looming crisis. #antibioticstewardship #antibioticresistance #stayinformed #healthcare #medtech https://lnkd.in/gVm6nKCV

THERE IS HOPE IN ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIBING ! This systematic literature review found that early-career general practitioners (GPs) prescribe fewer antibiotics than later-career GPs. However, there are still significant improvements to be made for common acute conditions, as their prescribing is higher than recommended benchmarks. #amr #antibiorésistance #antibiotic #antibiotique #infection #prevention #santé

Candida Auris, a fungus resistant to many anti-microbial medications, is on the rise. With anti-microbial and antibiotic resistant bacteria, fungus and viruses becoming more prevalent than ever, new approaches to Infection Prevention and Control are more important than ever! One important approach to reducing the risk to patients is to eliminate the use of plastic bags for the storage of nasal cannula, nebulizer and other breathing apparatus. Plastic bags allow bacteria to survive and THRIVE! Making the switch to WikiPouch is the easiest decision you'll ever make.
