Executive Chairman & Founder M&C SAATCHI Group of Companies & M&C SAATCHI ABEL (South Africa : Africa). Patron of The Street Store, the world’s first and largest (1000+) pop-up & free clothing store movement
I have worked for just 2 companies over the past 30 years (locally and internationally). Ogilvy part of WPP Sept 1993 - Sept 2008 (15 years) and #MCSaatchiPlc from end Sept 2008 up until now Sept 2023 (15 years and counting +) because I love what I do and who I do it with - in our Worldwide network and M&C Saatchi Group South Africa ( M&C Saatchi Abel Levergy Connect Razor PR ) ❤️ If you are starting your career, choose a great company, with great people, that is customer focused, with an eye on what’s here and now, and an eye on the future. A place that values it’s people and invests in them and the company culture. This modern day, job hopping to simply get ahead and earn more in the moment, is a soulless pursuit in my view, and won’t serve one well. Find your forest, your particular soil, and grow deep interconnecting roots. Never undervalue warm bodies in a room, sparking off one another. Never underestimate the value of human connection, trust, empathy, camaraderie and friendships at work 🙏 You need to stay curious. You need to be a constant student. A learner. And observer. Embrace diversity. Fresh inputs. Read. Watch. Listen. Debate. Travel. You need many inputs. That’s how you stay fresh and relevant. Not simply by moving around.

Chief Strategy Officer and Film Director at Publicis Groupe. Most Awarded for Creative Effectiveness & Strategy. Awarded Film Maker. Lyricist. Creativity Coach. International Awards Juror. Speaker at global platforms.
Strategy is not just a discipline, it’s a culture. Just as creativity is. Been doing a few intensive and (hopefully) interesting sessions for our teams at Publicis Groupe on how we and our clients can be more interesting with our springboards (creative briefs and client briefs), by being more revelatory with insights and more positively provocative with the thinking. And today, for Ramzi’s gang at Saatchi & Saatchi MEA, it was fun to conduct another interesting session alongside other sessions with our teams, especially our young talents, at Leo Burnett MEA (Middle East & Africa) Publicis Middle East and Digitas Dubai as a start - hearing the different ahas, feeling the energy and watching the strategic thinking flow (from people beyond “strategy”), as we cracked a few exciting ones for our big brands. So yeah, it’s true - strategy (and creativity) is not just a discipline, it’s a culture.

Look at any successful team in the world and they probably have these two qualities. Competition to be on the pitch on game day. But also a supportive environment to push each other in training. To be the best. It’s essential to have both in a creative agency. If you want to get to any place worth going. The only way to win as a team is to help everyone player be the best they can be. Because that incrementally makes everyone up their game. Which becomes self-perpetuating. At DDB, we had a policy of hiring talented and nice people for this very reason. By day you competed. After work, you hung out to talk about the days efforts. No ego. Here, it’s creating an environment that is both highly competitive and highly supportive. And it seems to be working. The other day I watched a senior team helping a junior team competing on the same brief. No ego getting in the way, just the desire to help them succeed. And in today’s world that’s a really, really special thing. That’s a creative culture worth building

Career Shortcuts Can't forget my early days as a media planner, way back at SO&U Saatchi & Saatchi, then later when at Mindshare working on Nigerian Breweries and Heineken account, those early years of my career were painful: 1. Long hours 2. Mediocre pay 3. Minimal vacation days But today, it's way better. Here are my 3 career shortcuts, feel free to steal them and use them for yourself to get to "the good life" faster: 1. Invest in Professional Development 2. Build a Strong Network 3. Seek Out Stretch Assignments Feel free to add 4, 5 or more.

First 50 years of my life as an Indian and here onwards as Singaporean - thank you SG for the citizenship! Experiencing life in two different countries at different levels on all counts – governance, scale, complexity etc. enables a rich and diverse perspective on all issues. Such diverse perspectives brings objectivity to how information may be received and processed. Finally, objectivity helps avoid judgement. Good spot to be in providing strong strategic direction to businesses in the area of innovation, branding and experience design Clear M&C Saatchi

👉Collisions create sparks, so fearlessly embrace the differences✨ This week, I had the privilege of immersing myself in a wealth of creative insights shared by Guan Hin Tay, the Creative Chairman of BBDO Worldwide Singapore. The course reignited my passion for creativity through the intriguing case studies and ads that were presented, inspiring me to craft campaigns that rival those of the industry luminaries I admire.💓 A pivotal takeaway is the importance of embracing unconventional thinking and fearlessly initiating collisions of ideas. During my year in the advertising agency realm, I encountered numerous challenges that demanded innovative solutions to captivate target audiences and stand out in the market. However, I occasionally failed due to an overreliance on conventional strategies and common ideas. From now on, I know that by daring to collide familiar concepts, we can unlock more possibilities and creativities that were previously unexplored. Therefore, I am committed to embracing collisions and shattering conventions!🙌 I deeply appreciate Pei Wen Wong for arranging this journey of collision. I can't wait to think outside the box and apply all these treasured insights as we brainstorm for our upcoming advertising contest in D&AD! Let's harness this momentum to elevate our creativity and deliver projects that shine with the pride of MMC and NTU. Exciting times lie ahead!🏆 #MMC #NTUSG #MC6348 #IssueinteractiveinAdvertising #Creativity
