Let me share something crazy with you. 😲 An entire Excel dashboard made with just one formula. Here I am using the new LET function along with a handful of all stars like XLOOKUP, BYROW, LAMBDA, MAKEARRAY, SORTBY, REPT, TAKE and SUM to generate this incredibly powerful and completely interactive with one cell formula dashboard. The gridlines are off! 😁 I got braces in my 40s. I couldn't get them as a child. They were an expensive procedure and we were poor. In my 20s and 30s, I kept thinking, "man, I am too late for this now". But finally, I got the braces in April last year. It has been a fun (occasionally painful) experience for the last 14 months. This afternoon, I had my final braces appointment and I am officially off the gridlines. Just in case you are wondering... Nobody cared that I had them. Everyone I love and care about had been extremely supportive. I spent about NZ$9k for them. The first month or two were a bit painful. After that it has been an easy experience. Both pics are from today.

Data analyst: The glass is 50% full. 🥛 Data scientist: The glass is under fitting the water. 😎 Data engineer: Somewhere a pipeline must have broken. We don't have all the water. 🤔 In a recent project, I was playing the roles of all three. As a data engineer, I built pipelines & processes to automatically collect and clean-up data (using Power Automate & Power Query). As a data analyst, I used Excel to analyze the collected data to make sense and create reports for my managers. As a data scientist, I made a business model to simulate various scenarios and suggest an optimum strategy for us going forward using programing + Excel. Why I am not excited by new REGEX formulas in Excel... 🤷♂️ This week, MS announced "new" REGEX (Regular Expression) functions for Excel. These help you test and extract text values based on patterns in your data. Here is why I am not too excited about them... 1) Too late: Do you know that RegEx has been around since 1968! Heck, its 14 years older than Excel. But all this while, I haven't missed them in Excel. In fact, I don't remember the last time I felt the need to use RegEx (either in Excel or outside). This is because Excel (and other data tools like SQL / PQ) have many powerful data extraction capabilities already. 2) RegEx is a band-aid: If you have crap data, then RegEx can help you extract stuff from it. But as a smart data analyst, you should fight the existence of crap data, not put up with it. Let's go back improve the input systems, data pipelines so that messed up data doesn't enter our spreadsheets. What do you think...? #Regex #Excel
