Back in March 2022, my team and I had lunch with Tim Brown, who led Investor Relations at Infratil for many years and is a big believer in the benefits of engaging retail shareholders.
We chatted about the challenges that companies face when it comes to measuring the impact of investor relations efforts with retail shareholders — in particular, the time and effort it takes across the business to create annual reports and investor materials. And yet, they had little idea of how many shareholders read them or if they had any feedback.
I talked about how at Sharesies, with our data and analytics capabilities, we can track not only the engagement statistics when communicating with investors, but also the feedback that really matters — for example, whether existing shareholders purchase more shares or sell shares, or whether new investors come onto the cap table.
That afternoon, I headed back to the office with a clear goal of building a product that could help Infratil and other companies solve these problems. And so Sharesies Open was born!
Sharesies Open is the start of us continuing to unlock genuine two-way access between retail shareholders and the companies they own. NZX and ASX-listed companies know how valuable it is to engage their retail shareholders (many of whom are also their employees or customers), and now they have the tool to help them do this at scale.
Thanks so much to Nicholas Pointon from NBR for the interview on this product. If you want to know more about Sharesies Open and how it can provide effective engagement with retail investors at scale, please DM or email me at susannah@sharesies.com.
