Exciting breakthrough from Dr. Hongyun Tang's team at #WestlakeUniversity! They've uncovered a novel #extracellular vesicle, termed "mitopher". This unique subcellular structure carries a single healthy mitochondrion, playing a pivotal role in sperm fertility. #Mitopherogenesis that exports mitochondria through generating mitophers could revolutionize our understanding of mitochondrial quantity modulation, mitochondrial exchange, sperm motility & fertility. A huge leap forward in the field of #LifeSciences! #ResearchHighlight #MitochondrialBiology Full article here: https://lnkd.in/gBDBbhuZ

"One of my pet peeves is when people call it a 'fertilized egg' because at that moment of fertilization, the sperm and the egg cease to exist – you suddenly have a new, distinct organism. And even at the very beginning, yes, it’s just a single-celled zygote, but it’s a human zygote, and we know that even in just that one cell, that human zygote has everything, everything that he or she needs to become the full-fledged adult they’re one day going to become. Nothing is added into that single cell from that moment for the rest of his or her life. All that happens from then on is just development and what’s required for that is protection and time, nourishment and things like that. So I think the claim that it’s just a clump of cells obviously has no basis in science, but it’s also a way of dehumanizing our really early human beings. Certainly we’ve seen examples of that throughout history when descriptors are used to dehumanize classes of human beings, and that’s not appropriate." - Dr Christina Francis, CEO, American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians & Gynecologists (AAPLOG) #aaplog #prolifeobgyns #aaplogscientificscholarship #aaplogmedicalevidence #integrityinmedicine #hippocraticmedicine #prolifeprowomanprochild #joinaaplogtoday

"Ever wondered why we're a blend of our parents but inherit our energy from Mom? Mitochondria, those 'powerhouses of the cell,' is because generates adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which serves as a primary source of energy for various cellular processes, are passed exclusively from mothers to babies. 🚀 While our looks come from both parents, the mitochondria's unique DNA, found in the egg, keeps the energy flowing down the maternal line. "It's like a biological gift from Mom to keep us powered up!"💡👩👧👦 How❓ Mitochondria contain their own small amount of DNA, separate from the DNA in the cell's nucleus. During reproduction, mitochondria are typically passed down from mother to offspring. This is because the mitochondria in the sperm, which are located in the tail, are usually discarded during fertilization, while the egg contains numerous mitochondria that are passed on to the embryo.

"Does grade 1 bilateral varicocele causes sperm DNA Fragmentation?" Grade 1 bilateral varicoceles certainly contribute to some degree. You do have to think of everything as risk factors. Health is not about 1 cause and 1 effect typically. Varicoceles contribute to sub-optimal fertility, sperm DNA fragmentation included. So, you still need to look at your lifestyle, environment, and pathophysiology--other contributors. Yes, typically, the more severe the varicocele, the bigger the negative effect on fertility. However, some men with grade 3 varicoceles are perfectly fertile. So, what are the differences?

A trained expert checks your sperm count, their shape, movement, and other characteristics. In general, if you have a higher number of normal-shaped sperm, it means you have higher fertility. But there are plenty of exceptions to this. #pathology #laboratory #lab #bloodtest #results #hospitality
