I've been working in the communications, branding, creative and change management field for 20 years.
I've led my team to win over 300 industry awards and recognitions with work being featured and published in notable journals like Logo Lounge, PRINT Regional Magazine, and Communication Arts.
I've designed and facilitated more than 600 strategic planning sessions for over 300 clients, analyzing tens of thousands of qualitative data points to deliver insightful brand strategies and impactful campaigns that deliver results.
I've juried 3 awards competitions; pitched, presented and spoken in front of countless crowds of people; and consulted with numerous c-suite executives on managing their organization's brands.
I've accomplished a lot, but guess what? I still experience that crippling, crushing and doubt-inducing feeling of imposter syndrome.
What I've come to realize after turning 40 is that we are all still figuring it all out. Even with all these accomplishments, I'm still figuring it all out.
And so its worth repeating: We 👏🏻 are 👏🏻 all 👏🏻 still 👏🏻 figuring 👏🏻 it 👏🏻 all 👏🏻 out. 👏🏻
So this post is for my fellow professionals—who like me—are still recovering and adjusting to their post-layoff realities.
1. If you're feeling the weight of self-doubt, reflect on and celebrate your accomplishments. Remember that you have worth.
2. Never doubt the contribution you bring to the table. For the naturally humble and less outspoken, that's especially tough. Remember that you have value.
3. Just like you, the people you likely look up to and admire are also figuring it all out. Remember this the next time you get anxious talking with someone who is your senior. Remember that we're all in it together.
(This post ended up being a humblebrag, and I'm sorry. Feel free to roast me in the comments).
